Looking back at.....Dead Rising!

Somehow it doesn´t feel like that long ago since I last played this game but it has been six years for me. Dead Rising is one of those games where I didn´t need to read about it, I didn´t need to see any trailers and I didn´t need to play a demo to decide if I wanted to play this game. All I knew about this game before I bought it was that it´s about you in a mall with a lot of zombies, so for me that was all I needed to know to buy this game!

Isn´t this game a lot like that populair zombie movie? It´s true that Dead Rising has something in common with the Dawn of the Dead movie, zombies in a mall, but I think this game is something different. For example these zombies have bugs, some type of bees I think, in their head and if you kill a queen then a whole group of zombies around you die. This is something that wasn´t in the movie and it´s an important part in the game. There are several moments in the game that I´m actually suprised, people that suddenly turn into a zombie or betrayal from other survivors. But what makes this game also interesting is that you have multiple endings, all deciding on how well you did in the story. The strange bosses in this game also makes this game a bit different than your average zombie game, often these are people that completely lost it (maybe because of the zombie outbreak or maybe because they´re just crazy) and that you can choose to fight against or you can ignore them.

What´s up with the clock? You constantly have to check the time if you want be on time for the next mission, they´re based on time and if you arrive there just a second to late you´ve missed it and that will sometimes greatly influence the story in a negative way. The best ending means you have to be on time for every mission and complete every mission, no mistakes and no fucking around! This can be stressful in a game that´s supposed to be relaxing, but it really depends on how you play. If you enjoy just killing zombies then you can do that, it´s not game over if you ignore the missions. You´ll just get a bad ending, but it doesn´t mean that it´s game over for you. I do like to do missions because killing zombies is maybe fun for an hour but after that it becomes a bit repetitive. But sometimes you want to do side missions, for example saving people or just checking out new areas of the mall for weapons and other useful items.

The two sequels are Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3. Dead Rising 2 is strange because you have two versions, one with Chuck and the other with Frank West (the main character from Dead Rising). I like both versions and I can´t say that one is truly better than the other, but it´s fun to play Dead Rising 2 with the crafting so you can make stronger weapons and do some serious damage to zombies! Dead Rising 3 is bigger and better than the first two games, but it still comes down to completing missions and killing zombies. If you like survival horror games and enjoy killing zombies, then these games are definately for you!
