Online hate

Sometimes you say things you don´t really mean, you´re angry and in a way you´re just ventilating some frustration. Of course that doesn´t mean that everyone that is angry is always the misunderstood guy or girl, sometimes people are just douchebags. But that´s in real life, how about online anger? Does that hate for someone mean you actually hate someone or is that just another way of ventilating frustration?

It´s usually during competitive games that I feel these feelings of frustration, when you clearly hit someone in the face but they stay alive and kill you with one shot. How someone just bumps you in the back during a race and you spin out of the corner. But let´s not forget how during a fight your character dies just a second before the other character eventhough you both hit eachother at the exact same time. The most common thing someone would say is bullshit! Which is quite understandable, but what if someone takes it further than that? Can you still hide behind the excuse of ventilating frustration?

Things you say or do online seem to affect you less, because it´s something you say or do against people you can´t see and often don´t know. This creates a distance between what you said or did and how that makes you feel. Sometimes you do realize what you said or did and then it´s really up to you how you deal with that, an apology seems to be least you could do. But let´s not forget that it usually takes two people to start a fight so it´s not that it´s always the fault of just one person! I don´t expect everyone to be mature and wise, that would be a miracle if that would be true, but it´s important that you realize what you do or say. Also that sometimes these words and actions have consequences.

Online you say and do things what you normally wouldn´t say that quickly in real life, that´s nothing new, but the effect those words and actions have on other people is often not something people really think about. We all get mad sometimes, some people get mad more often than others but I don´t think that gives you the right to be an asshole online. If you´re going to ventilate your frustration then you don´t have to do it with your microphone plugged in. Because the words you say are often feelings you have in that moment, these feelings are often anger and frustration that twist your mind into a raving lunatic! It´s easy to hate, but it´s difficult to find forgiveness...
