Looking back at.....Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance!

I was never much of a pc gamer, so it´s not a suprise that I played my first Baldur´s Gate game on a console, but this was a fun game that really wanted me to play more of these type of games. It´s actually quite simple, you play as a character that has to fight his (or her) way through levels and that usually means some mindless slaughter. When you kill you can pick up loot and that means new gear that makes you tougher or gold so you can buy new things that makes you tougher. Then there are also skill points you can use to make your character stronger.

It´s better to play with a friend? As much as I enjoy playing games by myself with a game like Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance you want to have a friend with you in this adventure, because it can be boring to hack and slash your way through all the levels alone. Sharing your screen isn´t a big problem, this offline co-op system works pretty good and it makes certain moments very funny. For example in one of the first levels you have to do a bit of platforming and you have to quickly jump from one end to the other over platforms that fall if you stand too long on them, so doing that with someone else while you share a screen is of course a lot of chaos for both players.

Sometimes games like this can be a bit boring, all that hacking and slashing does get old if that´s all you´re going to do. But playing with a friend makes it a bit better, still it doesn´t take away the fact that you repeat the same shit over and over again. So if you´re not a fan of that then this game might not be for you. But if you enjoy hacking and slashing yourself through endless hordes of enemies then you´re in for a treat. You can play as a human ranger, dwarven warrior or an elven mage. You can also play as another ranger, a certain populair character that wields two blades (the fans probably know who). There isn´t really a change in the story if you play as a different character, but sometimes certain characters respond differently to you if you play as another character.

This game also got a sequel, Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance II. This time you can play as five different characters and these characters do have their own personal mission, so there is a bit of a difference in the story if you play as another character. But it doesn´t really affect the main story, that stays the same. Also the three main characters from the first game are locked up, so you can´t play as them. It´s more of the same but with new characters and interesting side quests you do have a lot to do. It´s not the greatest game but it´s fun to play with a friend, so feel free to give it a try if you haven´t done so already!
