Looking back at.....Jurassic Park! (SNES)

Before I had my own SNES I used to rent a SNES with this game, because it was so much fun to play! It´s actually pretty simple, you play from a top point of view down on your character (Alan Grant) and you kind of play in the way you expect in NES games. But the big suprise in Jurassic Park is that once you enter a building you enter first person mode, which made it a scary experience if you heard noises and you had to go around a corner. But even from your high point of view the action could become quite intense when a T-Rex comes charging at you! Usually this means run for your life and if you think you can´t get away you could use some tranquilizer darts to keep him away from you. It´s an intense adventure for a SNES game!

In the game you can collect eggs and also keycards to unlock new areas, which seems easy but sometimes these are hidden quite well and that makes finding them a big challenge! The key is to keep your distance from the dinosaurs because they´ll fuck you up if you let them get close, the T-Rex can kill you with one bite so you definately want to keep your distance from this fellow! You actually have a big area to move around in, both inside buildings and outside, so it´s not a game to be bored in.

What made this game so much fun was first of all the dinosaurs, I already liked dinosaurs before Jurassic Park (the movie) but thanks to the movie and game I only became a bigger fan. But also the controls and atmosphere of the game made it easy to learn and challenging to beat, because you want to collect everything and make it out. Which seems simple but if you don´t know where some of the eggs are then you can be in for a long search! In those days there weren´t any guides on youtube, so yeah you had to figure that shit out yourself!

After some years and movies you could buy more Jurassic Park games but somehow they never came as close to this game on the SNES in my opinion, I guess the first one always has a special place in the heart of a gamer!
