Playing solo in a mmorpg!
Some people call these lone wolves pathetic and others just find them weird, people that play solo in a mmorpg. Maybe it is weird but if the game offers you this choice then it´s not that weird I guess, because if you enjoy playing a game on your own then why would you force yourself in a way of playing that you don´t like?
I play a lot of single player games, even in a multiplayer game I often go my own way and do my own things. That doesn´t mean that I don´t work with others sometimes, it´s just that I prefer to do things on my own. That´s exactly what I mean with going on your own adventure in a mmorpg, I prefer that and it´s nothing personal against other players. But sometimes people take offense and have a need to tell you how you don´t belong in a mmorpg. Of course they´re just being an asshole, a mmorpg doesn´t mean you have to work together but it´s often encouraged to do so. Because this way you gain more experience, you can do more things and the game becomes a bit easier.
It´s better to play with friends in a mmorpg? I think it´s safe to say yes, because a mmorpg is really made for that purpose. Usually they add a single player option in for those that don´t enjoy playing with others. This isn´t some sad addition for those who have no friends, nope this is for people who just enjoy playing solo. Of course if you have no friends that play games or just the games you play and you don´t make friends easy online then it´s of course nice if you have a solo option in a mmorpg, because it would suck if you´re forced to play with strangers to be able to play a game. But sometimes it´s not a bad thing to leave your comfort zone, try new things and meet new people. Sure for every hundred people maybe ninety might be annoying or unfriendly but there should always be a couple of friendly people out there as well!
Games like the Old Republic have areas where only one person can enter, usually these are story based areas where you can follow the story of your character. You can invite others to join you there but I see a lot of players do this solo, so in a way it´s not that strange to play solo in a mmorpg. I´m also glad that developers are picking up on this, because as much fun as it can be to play with others I´d say a lot of people have moments that you just want to play solo or you have trouble finding other people to play with but then at least you can make progression on your own. So it´s not sad or weird to play on your own in a mmorpg, just do you own thing and have a great time playing the game as you want to!
