Sinful Sunday: Not getting along with other gamers
In the early days of online gaming I loved the idea of playing games with other people, but I was younger and definitely not yet a big pessimist. Now I prefer to play single player games, spend as little time around other people and just do my own thing. I guess online multiplayer isn't for everyone...
Online gaming is for assholes?
Well that's a bit harsh, but it probably won't surprise you that there are a lot of assholes online. People that just go online to annoy others, which makes it not worth your time to spend any time on communicating with other people. Just look at the Elder Scrolls Online, in every town there are often people just hanging around to shout at other people or annoy them. Instead of playing the game they prefer to be assholes online, because that's apparently worth buying the game for. Oh wait they probably have a parent that's dumb enough to buy it for them. The same counts for Destiny, when I play online with others (for example in the weekly strike) then there is a good chance that you get teamed up with people that don't know what they're doing or deliberately sabotage the mission. For example running into a group of enemies and dying, but then they expect you to revive them within ten seconds or they'll leave. Then there are also people that are just afk, wether that's because they died and then decide to do something else but stay in the team or people that never intended on doing anything and just want to leech (get rewards but don't do anything to earn these rewards). It's easy to have a negative point of view towards other players when you deal with this on almost a daily basis, I guess that's the risk to play with random strangers.
But not everyone is bad?
I know, but it's difficult to see the good when you're drowing in an ocean of unpleasant experiences with online gaming. It probably doesn't surprise you that you don't feel like talking with other people or dealing with other people at all, not that you're trying to be an asshole towards them but you just want to be left alone and enjoy the game. Which might seem like odd behaviour in an online multiplayer game but just because it's an online multiplayer game it doesn't mean you have to play with other people. Of course you can try your luck in the chat, trying to find people like you that want a friendly group or guild/clan to join and then play together. Good luck with that, you'll need it!
