Why would someone kill himself/herself in a game?
Ever since my Mario adventures I've always wondered why someone people go for the gap why most people would want to jump over, at first I thought some people are just being silly and yet it seems that some try to make an art of it. Even now people still do it, just play Destiny and go to the tower and you'll always find someone jumping to his or her death. So what makes killing yourself in a game so much fun?
Giving death the finger?
We all know that one day we die, you can't escape that and it sucks that there is nothing you can do about that. But in games you can die a thousand times and still you're ok, well you might be pissed off if that happens a lot in a game but at least you don't die in real life. So I was wondering, do people like killing themselves in a game just to give death the finger? You tell death to suck it and just respawn, which is funny in a way I guess but it's kind of odd why so many people would do that and for so long.
It's a way to fight against the boredom?
I've heard from some people they try to kill themself in a game in a unique way (the Sims 3 is a good example of that) and try to do this in as many different ways as possible. Minecraft also gives you different notifications if you died in different ways, which is for some a challenge to figure out all the ways you can die in Minecraft and in a way collect all these different notifications. I can see how that keeps a game interesting for a bit longer, especially if you do this with friends and make it a challenge who can die in the most different ways in Minecraft. But is this the real reason why people do it?

I guess in a way this makes the most sense because sometimes people just do things, there isn't always a big reason behind it. So why does someone kill himself or herself in a game? Because he or she can! Eventhough I never felt the need for that I do remember making some dumb mistake and dying in the game and then laughing about it. Sometimes things happen, wether you're angry or you're happy it doesn't really matter. Perhaps there isn't a big mystery, killing yourself in a game is just something some people do and others don't. It can be an accident and sometimes people do it on purpose, maybe they do it for fun or maybe they do it because they're bored. Perhaps it's better this way, because if we would have all the answers then what's the point of living anyway.
