Looking back at.....Resident Evil Code Veronica X!
When I first saw Resident Evil Code Veronica X I wasn't super excited, playing as Claire didn't really interest me and it didn't look like this game was going to be that different from the previous games. But then I saw more, you could also play as Chris and Wesker returns! Suddenly this game became a lot more interesting and I couldn't wait to play it!
The search for Chris.
At the start of the game you play as Claire, she's looking for her brother Chris Redfield and is captured by Umbrella (the evil corporation that is responsible for the Raccoon City incident). Something goes horribly wrong on the island she's on and in the chaos she escapes from her cell, but zombies are walking around everywhere and once again it becomes a struggle to survive. She gets some help from a guy called Steve, this guy is a bit annoying but he doesn't play a big role in the game so it's nothing to worry about if you truly dislike Steve. It's puzzle time as usual and the fixed camera settings still do their magic in this game, but it's not as good as it is in the first Resident Evil and it causes some stupid mistakes when trying to control your character from a weird camera angle.
Chris is back!
After Claire's adventure you switch to Chris who also arrives at the island, but Claire is no longer there. He follows her to the new location, I'll spare you the details in case you haven't played this game, and meets his old 'friend' Wesker. It becomes clear that Wesker has changed, he's much stronger and faster than Chris and he has red eyes. The gameplay is pretty much the same as Chris and dealing with monsters is kind of his speciality. You also still work with item boxes, something that got replaced with increased carrying capacity in later games. This game adds some extra story parts but doesn't really feel like you need to play it to understand the story, this feels more like a side story to me.
Old fashioned fun.
If you don't mind fixed camera angles, sometimes weird controls in these camera angles, item boxes and some good old fashioned puzzles and aimed shooting then you're in for a good time. But if Resident Evil 4 and later Resident Evil games are more your thing then this game is definitely a step back. That doesn't make this a bad game, just an old game. I can definitely recommend it to you if you haven't played it yet, because the Chris and Wesker parts alone are worth going through this game!
