It takes forever to install games?
So I installed the Elder Scrolls Online yesterday and it took 11 hours to install it! Oh it's not a record and I don't expect people to be surprised by that, but it's ridiculous that this can happen. It's usually the combination of a big game, a launch day update and slow internet that can make this a long experience.
Installing games sucks?
That's what I first thought, I mean starting on my Xbox One I wasn't happy that I spend the first couple of hours with my new game watching the game being installed. I never install games, except GTA V on the Xbox 360, because I just want to start playing. Why would you even install a game? Well games usually run better when you install them, which means less issues and usually shorter loading screens. But is that worth installing it? I'd probably still wouldn't do it but unfortunately you have to install games on your Xbox One to play them, so it's not that you have a choice here. So yeah installing games sucks, but there are definitely some benefits when you install games.
What to do when installing games takes a long time?
If you have shitty internet and shitty luck just like me then it's good to be prepared, because you don't want to watch a screen showing the progress of 1% every 30 minutes. That's almost a guarantee to go insane, so it's smart to do something else. For example have you installed some other games? Then play these games while your game is being installed, if you fear that this will slow the installation of your game even more then you can always watch a movie or read a book. You don't want to look at the installation progress, well maybe once an hour but that's about it because it will drive you crazy just to see how slow it goes. If you're lucky and your internet is fast then you're probably done before you know it, I guess location can make the difference when it comes to good and bad internet.
Think before you act?
When you have only 500GB on your harddrive then it's easy to run out of space for new games, which means you need to get rid of some older games you installed. But since some took a long time to install you might want to think before you get rid of that game, you don't want to spend hours on installing that game again. So first look at games you might still be interested in playing again and then if there are games that took a long time to install and that you might want to keep on it, just in case you might want to play that game again. I guess it makes sense to think before you do something but in this case it could actually save you a day of frustration.
