Sinful Sunday: Patience is a virtue?
When you look at the total amount of time you spend on waiting in your life then it wouldn't surprise me that this is more than five years. You wait for the bus, wait for your class to begin, wait for the release of a new game, wait for your date, you wait in traffic and you of course have loading screens in games that keep you waiting. So it's safe to say that you need patience, unfortunately not all of us have that much patience and it's easy to lose your temper because you spend so much time on waiting.
Why do you have to wait?
Otherwise there would be chaos, at least that's how I see it. Let's say you go to a shop and you want to buy something, but there are other people that also want to buy something and if you all want to be helped at the same time then that would create chaos. The same counts when you're in traffic, you can't all go at the same time, you have to wait sometimes to keep a steady flow in traffic. In games it's even more frustrating, because there usually is no real reason to wait. It's almost as if the developers try to slow you down so you don't finish their game too quickly. That's probably not true but I can't help but feel that way sometimes when I spend minutes in a loading screen.
Why does waiting make you grumpy?
This could be a personal thing but I know for me it's pretty simple, I feel like I'm wasting time and that makes me unhappy. Days are already pretty short, unless you're having a bad day at school and/or work, so you want to make the most of every day. Having setbacks that stall you or keep you from what you want to do can make you upset, but some people handle that better than others. Another problem with waiting is that it makes you bored, which can be deadly for a game because a game that you find boring isn't a game you want to play!
So patience is important?
Absolutely! Patience is a virtue, but it's difficult to stay calm and patient when you're in a hurry or if you already spend a lot of time on waiting. Stress is usually something that makes things worse, so when you're stressed you might want to play a game that keeps you relaxed or do something else that relaxes you. Sometimes things take time, that's the way the world works and trying to rush things don't actually make things go faster. Things usually go from bad to worse if you try to rush things or you lose your cool while waiting, so it's better to prevent that by keeping yourself busy with something. Distractions usually make things go a bit faster and that makes waiting a bit less annoying.
