Looking back at.....Assassin´s Creed 2!

After all the issues around Assassin´s Creed Unity it´s not strange to look back at one of the early games in the series, especially a fan favourite like Assassin´s Creed 2! In this game you play as Ezio and he´s a young guy who joins the assassins after something terrible happens. A lot of people love Ezio and prefer the games where you play as him. But what makes Ezio such a popular character?

I think a lot of people like Ezio a lot because he´s the first character you kind of follow for most of his life, it´s not just a moment in the life of the main protagonist like with Altaïr in the first game. You see Ezio as a baby, then a young man, a middle aged man and eventually an aging man (gray hairs make him look a bit older). This doesn´t all happen in one game but it´s still a character you follow through his life, which helps you get a connection with him and it was also difficult for some people to let go in this character when Assassin´s Creed III introduced a new protagonist. Ezio is also an interesting character because as a young man he´s out for revenge and later he turns into a wise leader, you see him change in the games and that makes him a bit more real than most of the other main protagonists in the Assassin´s Creed games.

So it´s once again a story about revenge? It would seem that way but there is more going on then you think! I wouldn´t underestimate the story and the characters are actually quite interesting, so you might want to check the game out if you haven´t done so already! It´s also a good game for achievements/trophies if that´s your thing, since there is no multiplayer in AC 2 you can fully focus on the story and thus hopefully get as many achievements/trophies as possible. I will say that there are parts about the Ezio story that are weird, not just in Assassin´s Creed 2 but also the two other Ezio games (AC: Brotherhood and AC: Revelations). Especially the connection with Desmond, it just seems weird at times and at these moments I wish it would be Animus (the machine that lets Desmond see what his ancestors were up to) free and just a story of the character you play as.

Is this really the best Assassin´s Creed game? That´s an opinion, personally AC 2 isn´t my favourite but it´s definitely a lot of fun! You get a lot of freedom and you can do a lot of things, you don´t have to stick to the story the entire time and there are a lot of side quests and activities. This increases in the other two Ezio games, especially multiplayer makes it a lot of fun! Something AC 2 didn´t even need to be awesome, but it´s definitely something to keep the games a bit longer alive. For example when I started playing multiplayer in AC: Revelations that was six months after the launch of the game and there were still a lot of people playing multiplayer. I think that says already a lot how many people enjoy the Assassin´s Creed games and hopefully it stays that way!
