Dragon Age: Inquisition (first impression)
I decided to first type this first impression because my opinion sometimes changes after playing a game for a couple of days, but so far Dragon Age: Inquisition looks amazing! If you´re not convinced just check the wonderful world gameplay launch trailer, amazing! But also the characters look interesting, they´re quite diverse and I bet it will be fun to get to know them a bit better (some a bit more than others). This is the type of game that keeps you busy for several days and then you´d probably want to play again with another race and class just to see what impact that has on the world and probably also make some different choices. There are just so many possibilities!
What kind of game is Dragon Age: Inquisition? It´s a friendly RPG, with friendly I mean that it´s not a whole load of bollocks when it comes to menus or stuff you need to know to actually play the game correctly. But don´t let that fool you in the battles, you can easily be wiped out by enemies if you don´t pay attention! So it´s pretty much the same as Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2? Not really, this game does borrow certain things from those games (faster combat from DA 2 and the fully customizable main protagonist from DA: O). I´m actually quite happy with that because by taking the good parts from the previous games (yes I actually like DA 2) you make an even better game! Also the classes are quite familiar as are some specializations for example: the warrior has the reaver, templar and champion specializations, the mage has the necromancer, rift mage and knight enchanter specializations, the rogue has the assassin, artificer and tempest specializations. There are more but I don´t think I need to spoil everything here! If you´re familiar with the previous Dragon Age games then you might recognize some specializations and some are new or at least have a new name. But the specializations now really are a specializations and not just a new trick with that title. You actually assume the role of that specialization instead of just getting a new trick to use next to your class abilities. So yeah DA: I is not exactly the same as the previous games, to say the least!
What is the goal in Dragon Age: Inquisition? Without spoiling too much it comes down to you and your companions to close all the rifts (an opening that leads to the fade where demons and spirits live) in the land and you´ll have many other things to do if you want to take a break from that. For example there is a war between two factions (I won´t be too specific because that means spoiling at least one plot from a previous game), so I doubt that you´ll be bored any time soon in the amazing world! Companions, is this the same type of companion as in Mass Effect? No there are no aliens in this game. Oh you meant can you be in a romantic relationship with a companion? Well yes you can, with up to eight different characters (if I´m not mistaken) and I think there can also be same gender relationships so I guess everyone can have a great time in this game if such things are important to you. If you played DA: O and DA 2 then you´ll also encounter some familiar faces, so it´s fun to play this game for new and more experienced players in the Dragon Age games.
Is it worth buying? Once again this is up to you, I´m not going to tell you what you need to buy or not. But let me tell you this, Dragon Age: Inquisition is an amazing game with a huge world that you can explore as character that you can fully customize and you have companions that help you in a fight and that have their own personalities that might not always get along with you or sometimes they´ll along with quite a lot that might lead to some interesting moments. If this is something that interests you, if you enjoyed playing the previous Dragon Age games (you don´t need to like Dragon Age 2 though, this game is not an exact copy of that game) and you´re a fan of open fantasy worlds that you can explore then this might be a fun game for you to play!
