Sinful Sunday: One for one

The Musketeers would say: " one for all and all for one!" Unfortunately these days things are a bit different, people don´t care that much for others and your own needs seem to be more important than the needs of others. This is how it works in the offline (when you don´t play games or go on the internet) world but definitely also in the online world. It´s up to the point where people act in such a way that their presences disrupts everything else. But who cares? As long as you get what you want, right?

Wrong! As a kid (at least I certainly hope so) you learn how to share, it´s not all about you and sometimes you get a bit less so others also have something. There is nothing wrong with that, because why would you want everything if you can give some to others and make them happy as well. For some people this is easy, for others this is difficult. I guess it depends who you are and how you were raised, I think an only child might have more issues with sharing as he or she probably never really had to learn that in the house he or she grew up. But that doesn´t justify being a selfish asshole nor does it justify being selfish in games and claim everything for yourself just because you can.

In games there aren´t any real rules, oh sure you can´t cheat and do things that are forbidden but when it comes to decency there aren´t any rules. For example if you need to kill a certain enemy or group of enemies and while you´re trying that another players enters the fight and kills everything with an overpowered attack then he or she ruins your objective, oh sure you can try to find another enemy or group of enemies but what´s to stop that asshole from doing the same thing again?

When people are online then suddenly rules seem to be a thing of the past, you don´t have to be nice and you don´t have to behave yourself. Everything seems to be allowed and nobody can do anything about it, oh sure you can report them for being an asshole but I seriously doubt that has any real consquences for him or her. Which is something he or she knows and why they´re more likely to behave in such a way. It´s one of the reasons why you don´t want to play any mmorpg or other games that require you to share your game world with others because there are just too many selfish assholes in the world to ever truly enjoy this sharing of the world. Which is why I wonder why developers still try to force us in this role, because only assholes seem to want this and that would make developers also assholes. I guess that would explain something...
