Lords of the Fallen is a Dark Souls wannabe?
I think it´s easy to say that Lords of the Fallen is a Dark Souls wannabe, because this game definitely has some cool stuff to make it worth buying it. Sure it borrowed some ideas from Dark Souls but when you look at most games there isn´t a lot of originality and in this time I don´t expect that, as long as the games are fun to play and worth buying then that´s already a good game in my book!
So this game is difficult? It´s a challenge, but I don´t think it´s as difficult as Dark Souls because that game makes you hate everything while this game will probably make you smack your own face. Death isn´t the end in this game, it just means getting back to the spot where you dead as fast as you can so you can pick up your experience, the longer you wait the more of that will vanish so you might want to run towards it. The problem is that the enemies you´ve killed are back and won´t let you get past them just like that! So hopefully you´re good at evading assholes because this game is full of them. Another thing you might recognize from Dark Souls is that the boss fights aren´t easy, which means that you´ll probably die a couple of times before you realize what you have to do to hurt that douchebag.
Doesn´t that make this game a Dark Souls wannabe? No it doesn´t, it´s a game that took a good idea and gave it a different spin which resulted in Lords of the Fallen. First of all your character speaks and you can pick from several choices what you´re going to say, so this is something a lot of rpg fans might like. This means you can be good or you can be an asshole, either way it´s all up to you. You also have a high risk reward if you keep your experience instead of spending it at a save point, because the longer you walk around with it the more you earn (you get more experience for kills) and that means more experience for you. Of course the risk is then that if you die that you might lose everything if you don´t get back to the point where you died, so once again you decide how you´re going to play. Big risks, big rewards!
Why would you want to play this game? It´s easy to say if you like Dark Souls you´ll like this game. So I´ll say that if you like a game that´s a challenge and that requires you to be smart instead of just mindless hack and slash action then this game might be something for you. Also for the rpg lovers there is some story and personality added to your character, so that might be interesting as well.
