Sinful Sunday: Being a lone wolf in a game

Not everyone is the super social guy or girl, some people just enjoy playing a game alone or even in a multiplayer game just doing his or her thing alone. Some people find this annoying, they don´t understand lone wolves and often make it their business to try to kick that person out. But is a lone wolf really that bad?

It might seem wrong for me to defend them as I´m also a lone wolf, I play a lot of single player games and even in multiplayer games I often go my own way. This doesn´t mean that I´m not a team player, I help defend points in domination matches and stick with others when the other team does the same. But to be honest I prefer to go out on my own and face people in one on one confrontations, that doesn´t mean that I don´t enjoy getting a double or triple kill but in some games that can be tricky. The thing is that a lone wolf isn´t a bad addition to a team, they can actually distract or wreck enemies because not everyone expects them to strike when most of the team is in one position.

Of course not every lone wolf is a skilled player, some people just prefer to go out on their own and that sometimes gets them killed (a lot). Maybe that´s not very helpful to the team but I don´t think you should try to kick people like that, unless they do it on purpose because it´s not fun having someone on your team that helps the other team to win. But frustration and irritation are once more your enemies, keep your head cool and you might be able to do a lot of damage on your own. A lot of practice and knowing the map + the weapons you´re using can make a lot of difference. This isn´t just restricted to first person shooters but also third person shooters or team based objective games. But if you´re a part of a team you might want to learn to be a bit of a team player, don´t always run away and know when to stick around to help out.

A lone wolf works best on his or her own, that´s true and I wouldn´t want people to force themselves in a role they´re not comfortable with. Which is why it´s often smart to play single player games, because in these games a lone wolf often works better. Eventhough I sometimes actually have a NPC follow me around as a companion, which can be fun in some games and quite useful in other games. My point is that you don´t have to do everything alone, even as a lone wolf you can work with others and still do your thing. So don´t be afraid to be a part of a team, sometimes it´s even fun to be a part of a team and maybe you even make some new friends. Life is full of surprises!
