Looking back at.....Metal Gear Solid!

Solid Snake, do you know this name? Well maybe you´ve heard about it and seen videos about a character that goes by that name but who is Solid Snake? This is something that isn´t really clear to me when I first played Metal Gear Solid on the Playstation, I never played any of the Nintendo Metal Gear games so I was completely in the dark. But this didn´t stop me from playing the game, it was quite something in the late 90´s and I wasn´t really used to stealth games as my strategy was always go for the direct attack. I think Metal Gear Solid changed that a bit, think before you move and when you make a move be ready to make another one.

Metal Gear Solid is difficult for new players? If you´re not used to stealth games then it might be a challenge, because running and gunning usually means that things won´t end well for you. Suddenly I had to take it easy and move slowly instead of rushing, this was very strange for me and it caused me to get killed in the game several times where I didn´t have the patience to wait. But once you embrace this fantastic game then you´re in for a treat! But it´s not just sneaking around, also interesting boss fights that will sometimes push you to be creative while you´re on this comfortable cruise of a captivating story.

Metal Gear Solid has a story? Oh yes, if you´re not familiar with Metal Gear Solid then you should know that there is a story and it´s a big one. In other Metal Gear Solid games that came out after this one the cutscenes became bigger, the story sometimes close to confusing and the characters are numerous. So it´s easy to get lost in that, some even hate all the cutscenes and story, they just want to play and that´s understandable in some way. Because if you don´t appreciate the story in Metal Gear Solid games then you might be playing the wrong game! But to give you a little bit of insight, you play as Solid Snake and you have to infiltrate a base full of enemies that are up to no good (yes I explain it like this!). In the story there are several characters that are not who they seem to be and betrayal is no stranger in this story! Actually that´s about everything I can say, because to spoil the story it means that there isn´t much need to play the game. Unless you really enjoy the sneaking, then by all means look up the story online and play the game.

Metal Gear Solid was the first step in a story? Actually it´s not, there are several Metal Gear games before Metal Gear Solid but those are old and play differently. Ok it´s still about sneaking but on the NES I doubt you expect great things from that, they´re not bad games but especially when you look at the last Metal Gear Solid game then it becomes tough to go back to the originals. After Metal Gear Solid you have Metal Gear Solid: the sons of liberty (aka MGS 2), Metal Gear Solid: snake eater (aka MGS 3), Metal Gear Solid: guns of the patriots (MGS 4) and the last edition has still to come out which is Metal Gear Solid: the phantom pain (aka MGS 5). Of course there are also other Metal Gear Solid games like Metal Gear Solid: peace walker and portable ops, both are accepted as part of the story but to me they feel a bit like outsiders. Still they´re part of the story so I do mention them here!

It might take some research to get into the story of Metal Gear Solid, well maybe that´s just me, but it´s definately worth checking out! I can´t wait for Metal Gear Solid V: the phantom pain and I´m very curious to see where the story goes. Well there is enough speculation but I prefer facts!
