Looking back at.....Batman Arkham Asylum!
This isn´t that old but definately worth mentioning, because it´s such a great game and made me a fan of the Batman Arkham games! Arkham Asylum proved that there are Batman games that are good and worth playing, thanks to an amazing combat system and brilliant performance of everyone and everything in the game.
Do those voices sound familiar to you? If you´ve watched the animated adventures of Batman in the 90´s (like me) then you´ll probably recognize some of the voices you hear in this game, for example Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker. For me there is no other duo as good in those roles when it comes to animated Batman. But also the dark style of the game is awesome, it´s how you want to see Batman and put fear into your enemies by just being in the same room with them.
So it´s just hack and slash? Oh no, this game has an awesome combat system but it would be unwise to just attack enemies. If you use Batman´s gadgets and stick to the shadows you can take care of everyone before they can do anything about it. Of course you´ll also encounter some of the villains you probably know from the cartoon, comics or maybe even the movies. It´s a lot of fun to battle against these guys (and gal), I´m not saying every boss fight is fantastic but it´s nice that they put that in the game. Something some might hate but others love are the Riddler trophies, these collectables are sometimes difficult to get and will sometimes require some serious thinking. But nothing is impossible and see the Riddler get mad that you beat him is funny in each and every Arkham game!
But as great as Arkham Asylum is, it was really just the stepping stone to the greatest Batman game up to this point. Which is Batman Arkham City, this is more of the good things from Arkham Asylum and then include even more cool things like amazing boss fights and playing as Catwoman. Playing as Catwoman? Yes you can move through Arkham City as Catwoman if you want, but the majority of the game you´ll play as Batman. It really makes me curious about Arkham Knight, how can they make that game even better? Well first of all you can drive around in the batmobile and apparently you can play as Harley, but if that means that you have the freedom as Catwoman or if you´re restricted to just challenge modes remains to be seen. It would be sad if Arkham Knight will be the last great Batman game, but I have hope that things will be ok because somehow Batman always finds a way!
