Sinful Sunday: Games that didn´t live up to the hype.

It´s nothing new, a game that is supposed to be all that and turns out to be not as special as promised. It sucks and you might even feel like you´ve been played by the developers, which isn´t that odd because when they promise you things and they don´t turn up in the game then they´ve been lying to you! Nobody likes it when someone lies to you but somehow that doesn´t keep people from doing it and we´re accepting that type of behaviour. Weird...

I usually don´t take a big offense in these lies, that´s because I play games with moderate expectations. There are some exceptions where I´m so eager to play a game that I do learn all there is to know about the game and play it the moment I have it. Of course then the disappointment is a lot bigger, which is why I prefer to stay calm about new games. A hype never lasts long and usually does end with disappointment, so unless you like feeling like that then I suggest you don´t get sucked into the hype around a game!

Fable is one of those games that was supposed to be all that, but then turned out to be less spectacular as promised. Personally I had a lot of fun with that game and it did help that I picked it up later, which means the hype around the game was already gone and I just played it as another fun game. A game with a lot of expectations that was released not that long ago is Watchdogs, a lot of people thought that this game would be the best game of 2014 but after only a couple of days they started talking more negative about the game. Once again people felt like the developers lied to them, the game wasn´t as great as was promised in their eyes. But I actually like the game, with moderate expectations you accept a game much easier than with high expectations. I´m not saying that means that the developers are innocent, but with high expectations there is usually a much bigger chance on disappointment.

So no one is to blame? I wouldn´t go that far, sometimes the developers have lied and there is nothing they can do to change that fact. For example in GTA Online we were promised that we would have heists, but now almost a year later there are no heists and you´re stuck robbing stores. Sure that´s fun but we were promised heists on banks! That´s why I suggest that developers should learn not to make promises they keep and it´s probably better that sometimes they just shut up and show what they´ve really got instead of bragging about things they don´t have in the game.
