Good and evil in games

I think a lot of gamers are familiar with good and evil, you´ve probably played games like Fable or Fall Out 3 where morality plays a (big) part in the game and it will determine the outcome of certain missions. In Fable it goes so far that you actually see your character change into an angelic being or a demon, depending on the choices you made. It´s nice that you can choose, to be good or to be evil. I wish more games did that but sometimes it´s also nice to just follow a story that leads you into darkness or is sometimes a path of redemption.

The information I´m getting about Metal Gear Sold 5 the Phantom Pain the more I realize that this is a story about a man that is falling into darkness, a path of revenge that leads him to the darker parts of the soul. I´m quite fascinated by that, because it looks like it´s going to be an interesting story that is quite unique in the world of games. Sure there are games where you can play as the good guy and do bad things, hell you can even be a good guy that turns bad. But I don´t think that there are many games out there that have such a detailed journey into darkness as Metal Gear Sold 5!

It´s good to be bad? Sometimes absolutely! As much as I enjoy being the good guy, there are games or just moments that it´s fun to be the bad guy. It can even be quite interesting to play a game again and be evil, it shows you the other side of the coin and sometimes that´s even more fun! I actually like being the good guy with a darker side, I´m not really into super guy being the hero of all and do only good. It´s more fun to be shadow guy that crushes anyone that opposes him and he doesn´t care who gets in his way. Not really hero material but not exactly evil, I guess there is a large gray area where people have a lot of space being who they really are. But if you do make it into the realm of evil then all bets are off, go crazy and have fun in games like Saints Row where killing people is almost encouraged.

Games make people evil? Hah, that´s a good one! No there is no such thing, but I can see that it might influence some people. But anyone with half a brain could figure out the difference between games and reality, sure it´s fun to be the bad guy in a game but that doesn´t make you a bad guy in real life. I can see why some people are worried about such things and I´m not saying that you shouldn´t be careful with such things, but to get games banned just because there is violence in them goes too far. Besides if it´s a good story then see it as a movie where you play the main role, it´s not forbidden to watch movies is it? I didn´t think so!
