Multiplayer/co-op only games have no future?
It´s a bold statement, especially when you look at certain games where multiplayer usually keeps a game alive much longer than the single player can. But if you would take away single player then you´re kind of forced to play only multiplayer and/or co-op and I don´t think everyone would be happy with that!
Who plays single player? This is something I wonder sometimes when I look at profiles in a Halo or CoD lobby, because so many people don´t bother playing the campaign and go straight for multiplayer. Maybe that has something to do with someone playing on a secondary account or perhaps that person isn´t interested in the campaign. It does give me the impression that there are a lot of gamers that don´t care about the campaign and wouldn´t mind a game that is multiplayer/co-op only. But there are also several people that do play single player, some do it for the achievements/trophies but there are also people that actually enjoy playing the campaign. Somehow I do get the feeling that this group of people is getting smaller.
Titanfall proves that multiplayer only works? As popular as Titanfall was in the first couple of months, that´s how silent everyone became right now when it comes to Titanfall. The lack of customization options and the easy leveling made this game an easy and temporarily ride. At least that´s how it feels to me, because the dlc doesn´t convince me and to be honest I feel like it´s just a rip off to pay 9,99 Euros for three maps and nothing else! If they added a single player campaign or a type of bots only mode then people could practice (without getting slaughtered) and have more fun with the game, so I do think that adding a single player gives a game a longer life. If only it was for the achievements/trophies, at least people will be playing it longer than a month or two.
So multiplayer only is a bad thing? I don´t think so, because I did enjoy playing Titanfall and when Titanfall 2 comes out then they know what they have to do to make that game unforgettable! It´s risky but I think it can work, but I do hope that there will also be games out there that will still support single player. As much fun as it can be to play with other people I do like to play on my own every now and then. I doubt I´m the only one that feels that way!
