Playing games makes you evil?

That sounds like it's made up by some religious zealots that consider everyone and everything different then what they know as wrong (in their language that's already evil). You'd probably laugh at this idea but for the sake of filling a page let's get to the bottom (or as long as I feel like talking about it) of this ridiculous idea.

Games affect you?

I won't deny that, a sad moment can make me cry and a happy moment can make me laugh. But I still don't see how killing virtual characters in a game makes me want to kill real people, because people who do that are usually very disturbed and to blame it all on games seems cheap and lazy. Because there are usually a lot of things that happened in someones life that makes them go over the edge. That doesn't mean that games can't inspire or help realize a sick fantasy, for example that moment in Modern Warfare 2 where your character can (it's optional for you) shoot civilians. Of course you also have games like GTA V where you can plough with your car through a group of civilians or have sex with a prostitute and then kill her. But does that mean you'll do that in real life? I don't think so, most people understand that a game is just a game and it's a good way to blow off some steam and that sometimes means doing some crazy things.

So games are completely innocent?

Hm I don't know if they're completely innocent, I mean some games go pretty far and give the player a lot of freedom. I guess it depends on the person who plays the game how far it affects him or her, I think for younger players this is a bigger danger than for older gamers. When a game is for people who have the age of 18 or older then that usually means that it's quite intense. Blood, violence, sex, harsh language and more of this mature content can be found in these games. This isn't the type of game that you want to give to your kids and yet a lot of kids play these mature games. Who's fault is that? The parents? The shop that sold them the game? The kids are to blame? I guess it's a bit of everything and as much as you want to stop that from happening you can't, at least not completely. So games aren't forcing you to do anything, but on young and/or unstable minds it can have an effect that will make them more hostile or even dangerous to others. It's not that the game tells them to do it, often people feel motivated or inspired by what they did or saw in a game and that can lead to more of that but then in real life. So games aren't really to blame here, as long as everyone sticks to the rules. Eventhough I already know that will never happen.

Games don't make you evil?

I don't think so, because usually people that are considered to be evil already were unstable to begin with. I'm not saying that you're actually born evil but under certain circumstances a more negative way of seeing the world can definitely happen to some people. Eventhough some people are just bad, they think hurting others is funny or quite alright while most of us wouldn't consider that acceptable. I also don't think games awaken some type of darkness inside you, if it's there then it was always there and games didn't force this to the surface. Games are actually meant to be challenging, funny or just relaxing. I've been playing games for more than twenty years and I'm alright, oh sure maybe not perfect but I'm ok and I've played some of those games that apparently make people evil. Perhaps it's different for some people, it could be that some people are more vulnerable and easier influenced by something. But can you really blame games for that? Maybe some people should look in the mirror and realize who they are and what's probably best for them. Don't put yourself in a situation you can't handle or what you know isn't good for you. Games don't make you evil, but that doesn't mean that evil people don't play games.
