Goodbye splitscreen?
Well it's official now, there's no splitscreen mode in Halo 5. I think this is a huge setback for everyone that loves to play games with a friend on the couch. Sure a lot of people play online with eachother these days but it's nice if the splitscreen option is there, which means you can play together when you're visiting a friend. Let's not forget playing games with your girlfriend, which is also nice if you can play together on one console instead of having to buy two just to be able to play together. For me this is a step back and I don't approve of this at all!
Why is splitscreen so important?
Because it allows you to play with a friend of your boyfriend/girlfriend when you're in the same house or living together. I mean if there is no more splitscreen then visiting a friend means that you can't play games together. Oh sure there are some games where you share the same screen (all the action happens on one screen without the need to split the screen in half) or you take turns, but that's lame because sharing a screen means that the actions on one person can affect the other in a negative way. For example if one person is slower or can't make a certain jump then that means the other person can't move forward. Taking turns when playing games is lame as well, sure it's a possibility but isn't it more fun when you can play together at the same time?
Why did they leave splitscreen mode out?
What I heard from 343 Industries is that splitscreen mode stood in the way of better quality of the game, so they sacrificed that to improve the quality of the game. Which is nice but it seems like it's all about the graphics now and the frames per second, personally I don't care about that. I'd rather have a game with lower quality graphics and slower frames per second and yet have the ability to play with a friend when he or she visits me. But I guess some people seem to disagree...
This is the end of splitscreen mode?
That sounds a bit dramatic but it's possible, because if a game like Halo gets rid of splitscreen mode (splitscreen mode has been in Halo games for a long time) then that might send a signal to other game developers and might convince them to leave it out in future games. I certainly hope this isn't the case because I don't want to miss out on splitscreen mode in games, at least if it's a possibility. I like to be able to play games with a friend when someone visits me, sure we can talk about the weather or pass the controller but it's so much more fun when we can just play together at the same time. I'm pretty certain I'm not the only one, so if splitscreen mode becomes even more rare then we (gamers that support splitscreen mode) should let the developers know how much we want splitscreen mode!
