Game addiction?

It might seem silly to some people but it really exists, a game addiction. This means that you can't stop playing games, so you're playing games every day and on that day you often play games for a long time (about 8 or 10 hours at least). Maybe that doesn't even sound extreme to you, but anything more than that is just worse. But is it really so bad? I mean you're playing games, that's not a bad thing. Right?

How does it start?

Actually quite innocent, you like to play games and so you play games. If nobody stops you and you have nothing else that you want to do then it's easy to spend a lot of hours on gaming. This can go on up to the point where you spend most of the day playing games and only play games. You wake up, maybe you take a shower or get some food and then it's time to play games which will go on until you get hungry again or if something else comes up. But if you're not disturbed and hunger doesn't stop you then it's easy to spend ten hours on gaming, maybe even more if you get the chance. Which is why it's important that you don't let it go this far, take a break at least once an hour and try to do something else.

Gaming is unhealthy?

It's unhealthy to sit on your ass all day, so yes gaming can be unhealthy for you. But not every game requires you to sit on the couch and from some games you can actually learn something. But that doesn't mean that it's ok to spend the entire day on playing games. Get out, do something you like and meet up with friends. Another nasty side effect of a game addiction is that you lose friends and eventually turn up to become socially awkward where you don't know anyone and nobody wants to get to know you. Some gamers have friends online and that's cool, but it's also good to know people in real life and hang out with them.

Game addictions are a serious problem?

I wouldn't call it the biggest problem out there but if people aren't careful it will become a bigger problem. When you look at kids these days you notice how some of them are fat, have a terrible condition, are sometimes even socially awkward and don't seem to be handling sunlight that well. I guess if you spend a lot of days of the year inside playing games then it's not a surprise. Which is why it's important that you want to change, I'm not saying throw away your games but moderate and spend some more time on other things. As much as I like to play games I don't spend all day playing them, sure there are exceptions but as long as you're not making a habit out of that then you should be ok.
