If you never played games...
I was thinking about how I first started playing games, but then I couldn't help but think how my life would've looked now if I never started playing games or if I never liked playing games. Just think about it, if you never played games or never liked playing games then you probably would be doing something else with your life or do you think you would've end up in the exact same place as you did now?
Games don't define who you are?
No but the type of games you play do say something about you. I mean if you like survival horror games then you probably also like horror movies or thrillers. It's not a guarantee but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. If you like sport games or fitness games then you're probably someone that likes to watch sport on tv or maybe you even are a member of a sportclub or do some exercizes yourself every now and then. Once again this isn't a guarantee, but it definitely wouldn't surprise me if it's true. So in a way games do say something about you, for example what you like or what you're interested in, but they don't define you as a person. I mean it's not like not playing games made you a completely different person, right?
Gaming has influence on your life choices?
You probably haven't thought much about it but what would happen if you didn't play games at certain moments in your life, would that have meant different choices? For example your girlfriend comes over and wants to go out with you but you prefer staying home playing games, if this leads to a break up then you might have missed out on a great relationship (eventhough breaking up over something like that doesn't seem like that's a great person to be with). What about you staying in bed longer because you played games all night long, but by doing so you're missing out on vital information you need for the upcoming exam. I know school sucks but there's a point in going to school, because if you don't go to school it might be harder for you to graduate if that's even possible at that point because you often have to be present for at least 80% of the year to be even allowed to do your exams. But the same counts for working at home, if you spend more time on playing games then working then you'll get yourself in trouble.
So gaming is bad for you?
Well I don't think so, as long as you're being responsible. Playing games all day and doing nothing else isn't being responsible and that usually gets you into trouble. But playing some games every now and then is a relaxing hobby I can definitely recommend. Games can also prevent bad things, for example staying home might prevent an accident you could've been in if you did go out. But then again anything could happen, you don't know the future and I don't think it's something you really want to know. Because if you know the future then what's the point of living your life?
Life would've been better without games?
Maybe your life would've been different if you never played games, but thinking back like that doesn't make you happy and it also doesn't help you go forward. What's done is done and I doubt that thinking about that will bring you happiness. But if you're unhappy with how things are going now then it's not too late to change things, if there are things you want to do or things you want to see then do it. It doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your hobby, I mean playing games is something you could do later and if there are other things you want to do first then that's not a bad thing. But that doesn't automaticly mean that you're wasting your life if you play games, sometimes you just need a moment to find yourself and discover what you really want. Just be careful that you don't stay too long in this moment, sooner or later you'll have to move forward and if you don't do that then others will do it for you and that's usually less good for you. There's nothing wrong with wondering and thinking back, just don't let it control you and keep you from moving forward.
