Why do you get angry while playing games?

It seems silly when you think about it, getting angry because of a game. A mature and wise person would probably say that it´s silly to get mad over something that doesn´t matter. But when I´m angry all logic goes out of the door, it´s not an emotion I control! Sure I can keep the anger inside and I´ll turn myself into a time bomb, which means I´ll burst into rage at a time that isn´t quite appropriate. I´ve had that at school and also when going out, that got me into a lot of trouble and I know that bottling up anger isn´t the way to deal with it. So before I talk about how you deal with that I want to get back to why you get angry. Well for me it´s mostly frustration and irritation, for example someone that doesn´t die when I shoot the living hell out of that guy and yet he kills me with one or two shots. I don´t know if that´s the game fucking me over or someone just using cheats, I do know that it pisses me off a lot! Maybe some people have patience for that or don´t really care ...

Destiny co-op (first thoughts)

After seeing the trailer for Destiny co-op I must admit that I didn´t really picture the game like this, which isn´t a bad thing really but I gues I thought the game would be a bit different. Still it looks awesome and I do think that this might actually be a great game! In the trailer you follow three characters, I assume these are three different classes you can play. The guardian, the warlock and the hunter. The outfits of these characters look awesome, no more typical armor or camo outfits but some cool bad ass outfits that say that you mean business! But you´ll see things from a first point perspective so it doesn´t really matter that much. But when one of the characters did some type of charge attack you´re in third person perspective and that was a bit weird but cool as well. Everything looks nice and I think that things will only look better when we get closer to the launch date which is on the 9th of September. Before that you can enter the Beta and try this game for yoursel...

Looking back at.....Jurassic Park! (SNES)

Before I had my own SNES I used to rent a SNES with this game, because it was so much fun to play! It´s actually pretty simple, you play from a top point of view down on your character (Alan Grant) and you kind of play in the way you expect in NES games. But the big suprise in Jurassic Park is that once you enter a building you enter first person mode, which made it a scary experience if you heard noises and you had to go around a corner. But even from your high point of view the action could become quite intense when a T-Rex comes charging at you! Usually this means run for your life and if you think you can´t get away you could use some tranquilizer darts to keep him away from you. It´s an intense adventure for a SNES game! In the game you can collect eggs and also keycards to unlock new areas, which seems easy but sometimes these are hidden quite well and that makes finding them a big challenge! The key is to keep your distance from the dinosaurs because they´ll fuck you up if...

Sinful Sunday: Insults or blasphemy?

When you´re angry you say things you wouldn´t normally say, at least that´s how it goes with me. But I know that there are plenty of people that say bad things just as a habit, I don´t even think that some people see the harm in that. Not that I would be the one to preach the good word to others, but it can be quite hurtful for some people and it´s also not being respectful towards others. But it´s not just bound to religion, sometimes people say bad things about sexual orientation or even gender. I don´t think people always mean what they say but that doesn´t make it less insulting to some people. In a way it´s ridiculous that calling someone gay is considered as an insult, but that doesn´t change the fact that a lot of people will take that as an insult. Then there are also guys that like to talk shit to girls, just for being girls they get sometimes the most stupid shit you can think of thrown at them. Because heaven forbid that a girl beats you in a game, how dare she do such a t...

It´s stupid to buy a new look for your first person character?

I´ve heard a lot of bad things about CoD Ghosts and how stupid people are that buy customization packs for their character. Somehow the ammunition to insult other players never runs dry, because according to them you´re an idiot if you buy a customization pack for a first person character. But are you really an idiot? I mean if you really want to buy a new look for your first person character then that´s your business, even if you can´t see that new look yourself! Why would you buy a new look for your first person character? I think some people just like to be unique, to have something not a lot of other people have. Of course hundreds if not thousands might think the same and that doesn´t really make it unique anymore, but usually you don´t see that many people in a match with dlc skin on their first person character. Then there are people that just want to look good, even if they can´t see it then they like to show that off to other people, that might seem stupid but if yo...

Dlc that we want or dlc that earns money for developers?

Every time a game announces new dlc it´s the question if this is dlc made for what people want or what developers think is going to earn them a lot of money. Maybe that´s a bit unfair to say, because I know that some developers actually do listen to the community and try to give people what they want. But when you play a game like CoD then I can´t help but wonder if the new maps are made for a quick cash grab or actually designed for people to test their skills or what they´ve been asking for. In a first person shooter dlc is very important, it keeps the game longer alive and with some luck it also attracts new players to the game. That´s what you at hope for as a developer, but what about us the gamers? What do we want? I guess that really depends on who you ask, because we might all be gamers but we don´t always like the same things. Some people are really focused on winning, others just want to have a good time and then there are people that just want to explore and discover ...

Four player co-op, do we really need it?

As a lone wolf I don´t really see the need for this, because most story modes I play solo. I think most games with a story mode are made for just one player, this works well for me and I don´t see why developers should change that to a co-op mode. Of course it´s nice if you can share the story with a friend, but usually a game isn´t designed for that and your friend usually doesn´t show up in the cutscenes. The worst type of co-op game is where you and your friend look almost the same but he or she has a different colour on his or her character. It feels kind of cheap to me and doesn´t help me focus on the story. It´s nice that you can play in the story mode with a friend, this way you can share your adventures with eachother and hopefully have a great time. But for me this was often problematic, because my friends wouldn´t always be online when I was online and if I continued with the story then we couldn´t play together anymore. Of course this is just a minor setback but in truth i...

Dragon Age Inquisition (first thoughts)

After seeing the Inquisitor trailer I must admit that I´m very excited about this game, I was already excited before but now after seeing the trailer I´m almost counting the days until it becomes available. As they mentioned in the trailer that will be on the 7th of October 2014. Which isn´t that far from now, I mean I´ve waited much longer on games and this doesn´t feel like it´s that long! In the trailer you see a human looking character, which kind of gives me the idea that you´ll have to play as a human like you did in Dragon Age 2. I don´t see this as a problem but I´ve heard that a lot of people prefer to play as a different race, for example as a dwarf or elf. The combat system looks fast as it did in Dragon Age 2, I´m happy about that because I really loved the fight system in Dragon Age 2! The graphics look good and I´m actually suprised that Dragon Age Inquisition will also be available on the ´old´ generation consoles (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360), but that´s good news for ...

Online hate

Sometimes you say things you don´t really mean, you´re angry and in a way you´re just ventilating some frustration. Of course that doesn´t mean that everyone that is angry is always the misunderstood guy or girl, sometimes people are just douchebags. But that´s in real life, how about online anger? Does that hate for someone mean you actually hate someone or is that just another way of ventilating frustration? It´s usually during competitive games that I feel these feelings of frustration, when you clearly hit someone in the face but they stay alive and kill you with one shot. How someone just bumps you in the back during a race and you spin out of the corner. But let´s not forget how during a fight your character dies just a second before the other character eventhough you both hit eachother at the exact same time. The most common thing someone would say is bullshit! Which is quite understandable, but what if someone takes it further than that? Can you still hide behind the excuse o...

Looking back at.....Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines!

There´s a good chance that you´ve never heard of this game, but it´s quite unique so I´m not that suprised if you haven´t. It´s a good game that had some issues and then things went even worse for the developers, which made this game more difficult to get. But it´s one of the few good vampire games where you actually feel and act like a vampire, instead of being some overpowered or just completely weird creature that has nothing to do with vampires. Of course you´ll probably say that there are plenty of other great vampire games and that might be true, but I think that this game actually captured the whole turning into a vampire and then deal with it scenario pretty good! You play as someone that has just been turned into a vampire, you can decide what type of vampire and if you want to be a man or a woman. This creates unique dialogue depending on the choices you make here, I really like things like this so you can have your own unique story instead of doing what everyone else does....

Sinful Sunday: Not playing for the objective!

This is for me one of the biggest frustrations in multiplayer games, when I´m in a team that is full of people that don´t play for the objective but just camp or waste time doing whatever it is they do. When I´m playing domination in a first person shooter or third person shooter I expect the rest of my team to capture or hold domination points, but often I see people just trying to get as many kills as they can in domination and not adding anything to the domination score. Which usually means that thanks to people like that you´ve already lost before you´ve even really begun, because as long as they don´t participate in the match then there is no chance in hell that you can win. Why do people play a game mode like domination if they´re not playing for the objective? That´s actually not so difficult to answer, a lot of people play domination to boost their k/d. Because there is no kill limit so they can get over a hundred kills and keep going for as long as the point limit hasn´t bee...

The return of Blood Rayne?

Have you ever played one of the Blood Rayne games? It´s not one of the most amazing games but it´s really something you play for fun. As you hack and slash through enemies you can finish them off by draining them from their blood or cutting their heads off. It´s not a game for the faint of heart, but I wouldn´t say it´s a scary game. It´s the type of game where you play the role of a sexy dhampir, half human half vampire, that takes care of evil in the world. Once again it´s not a game you should take too seriously, just enjoy the fun and of course of your beautiful character! Another vampire game? Well I don´t think there are that many vampire games out there but even if you feel like there are so many out there then this isn´t just another bad game like Vampire Rain (no offense but that was just not a good game). What I like about the Blood Rayne games is that you can hack and slash, so no fancy controls or rules you have to live by but just go crazy with your blades. Then there is...

Playing angry vs staying calm

In the third Star Wars movie (revenge of the sith) Palpatine says that anger gives Anakin more focus, but is that really true? Of course Star Wars movies are fiction and not to be taken seriously, but let´s look a bit closer at this anger gives you focus idea. Because it´s easy to get angry and from personal experience I can tell you that I don´t experience more focus when I get angry, I´d say the opposite is probably closer to the truth as I become dumber and more likely to repeat the same mistakes. Getting angry makes you dumber? A scientist will probably explain this much better than me but it comes down to you not thinking clearly because anger clouds your judgement. You don´t reason, you don´t think you just do things. You´re probably familiar with the expression of blind hate, well that´s how it is when you´re really angry. Somehow you don´t think clearly and you just go crazy. So as a gamer you´re not going to play better when you´re angry, it´s more likely that things will on...

Diablo III

When I first heard of this game it looked interesting but somehow I wasn´t that tempted to buy it, then after launch I heard so many bad stories about this game that I decided to just ignore this game. Until I played the demo on Xboxlive this month, I really enjoyed that and had a lot of fun shooting the shit out of enemies and getting loot! It reminds me so much of my Baldur´s Gate Dark Alliance days, sure that wasn´t the best game but I had fun with that and I can say the same about Diablo III. What´s so great about this game? A lot of things really, but let me get into detail so I can show you what I mean. I really like the characters and classes, they actually speak and this is new to me because usually you play as a mute hero in these type of games. Also you have a bit of a backstory, of course it´s not that important but it does set the type of character of the person you play as. So far I´ve been playing as a demon hunter and a mage, both are a lot of fun to play and you can d...

CoD Ghosts has nothing to fear of Titanfall?

Even before the launch of Titanfall I heard several people talk about how this was the end for CoD, because Titanfall is that much better and would completely crush CoD. Well we´re now more than a month later for the Xbox One gamers and almost a week later for the Xbox 360 gamers, but I don´t really see that much of a difference. There are still plenty of CoD players online, maybe not as much as in the early days but I don´t think this was all thanks to Titanfall. Don´t get me wrong, I think Titanfall is a good game but I don´t see it as the destroyer of CoD as some people called it. People are full of shit? Well not all of them of course, but usually the ones that shout the hardest in a comment section are usually the ones that are full of shit. Often they´re just trying to make people mad or start some retarded discussion that leads nowhere. It´s better to just ignore people like that, eventhough that´s not easy as they seem to pop up everywhere. So why do they do it? Maybe some pe...

Face your fears!

I think games aren´t just made for fun, sometimes you can confront your fears. This might seem strange but in a way it can actually help you. By playing a survival horror game you might be able to take more or it can scar you for life, let´s not forget the part where games can also make things worse. But I do think that some games can actually help you with certain things, eventhough it´s not real it´s sometimes very real for the person playing a game. Especially if the screen flashes, the music becomes more intense and your controller vibrates when you get hit. It´s not a perfect simulation but it can put you in an uncomfortable situation, which will often require you to deal with it if you want to move forward. Also people with a certain phobia can use games to face their fears, a fear of spiders for example can be bad. But if you play certain games where you have to fight giant spiders can actually help a bit. But also taking a spider as a pet, which hopefully will show you that s...

Looking back at.....Dead Rising!

Somehow it doesn´t feel like that long ago since I last played this game but it has been six years for me. Dead Rising is one of those games where I didn´t need to read about it, I didn´t need to see any trailers and I didn´t need to play a demo to decide if I wanted to play this game. All I knew about this game before I bought it was that it´s about you in a mall with a lot of zombies, so for me that was all I needed to know to buy this game! Isn´t this game a lot like that populair zombie movie? It´s true that Dead Rising has something in common with the Dawn of the Dead movie, zombies in a mall, but I think this game is something different. For example these zombies have bugs, some type of bees I think, in their head and if you kill a queen then a whole group of zombies around you die. This is something that wasn´t in the movie and it´s an important part in the game. There are several moments in the game that I´m actually suprised, people that suddenly turn into a zombie or betray...

Sinful Sunday: Facing lower level opponents on purpose!

I know we all have our own way to get from one point to the other, I´m not someone that likes to judge but I can´t help but despise cowardice. Because it´s such a cheap and disgusting way of handling things. I don´t like it and I don´t respect it, which means whenever I face someone that uses cowardly tactics in a game I can´t help but dislike that person. Of course it´s stupid to go crazy and just run out in the open to get yourself killed in a multiplayer match, but to resort to cowardice from the start actually does say a lot about someone. One of the things I really hate in multiplayer games are high level players that deliberately go to lobbies where low level players are, which means they have several advantages to beat you. First of all they have more experience and thus probably know the best spots and tactics to beat the other team, but let´s not forget that often with a high level you also have more items unlocked and that also gives you an advantage. I find this such a ch...

Playing solo in a mmorpg!

Some people call these lone wolves pathetic and others just find them weird, people that play solo in a mmorpg. Maybe it is weird but if the game offers you this choice then it´s not that weird I guess, because if you enjoy playing a game on your own then why would you force yourself in a way of playing that you don´t like? I play a lot of single player games, even in a multiplayer game I often go my own way and do my own things. That doesn´t mean that I don´t work with others sometimes, it´s just that I prefer to do things on my own. That´s exactly what I mean with going on your own adventure in a mmorpg, I prefer that and it´s nothing personal against other players. But sometimes people take offense and have a need to tell you how you don´t belong in a mmorpg. Of course they´re just being an asshole, a mmorpg doesn´t mean you have to work together but it´s often encouraged to do so. Because this way you gain more experience, you can do more things and the game becomes a bit eas...

Pc gamers are snobs?

I can´t help but get the idea that a lot of pc gamers are snobs, when I´m reading their comments it doesn´t really point out how modest they are. Of course the same could be said about console gamers, they bicker about almost anything and nobody seems to get any wiser from that. But that´s not really snob behaviour, that´s just stupid behaviour. I´m talking about people that actually believe that they´re better because they´re a pc gamer, they often leave comments as pc rules over everything else and no console can ever match the pc! A lot of these comments are just taunts, trying to get people mad for some sad satisfaction on their part. But is it true? Is the pc so much better? In a way it´s true, the pc constantly updates and isn´t bound to what you buy as it is with a console. With a console you´re usually stuck to that hardware for several years and games can only go that far. Which means that console gamers won´t always get the most out of a game, they get the most out...

You know you´re a roleplayer when...

Have you ever played on a RP server? If not then you probably don´t encounter a lot of roleplayers. A roleplayer is someone that plays a role, duh, but it´s more than that because they don´t just play it in a way they are the person they´re playing. Some might take this a bit far, but most of the time it´s just good fun between people with a lot of imagination. How do you recognize a roleplayer? * Usually the way they speak to you and others gives away if they´re a roleplayer, but some might whisper (a private message) to you to check if you also roleplay or tell you that they´re a roleplayer. * As you would expect a roleplayer play a lot of roleplaying games, these can be single player but also multiplayer games. * A roleplayer will usually take an original name or at least a name that doesn´t have numbers or symbols in it that you don´t expect in a name. * A lot of roleplayers are also part of a guild, clan or group of roleplayers. This makes them even easier to recognize...

Titanfall on the Xbox 360 is almost the same as the Xbox One version?

I´ve seen several gameplay videos now of both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 version and I don´t really see a difference. Ok sure the graphics look a bit better on the Xbox One but even that doesn´t really seem to be right in your face. I´d say if you´re fighting in an intense battle you´re not going to pay attention to how pretty the graphics are. So the real question is, should Xbox 360 gamers buy Titanfall on the Xbox 360 or wait until they have an Xbox One? It really depends what you´re planning to do, if you´re going to buy the Xbox One anytime soon then it would be a waste to buy Titanfall on the Xbox 360. But if you´re going to keep playing on the Xbox 360 for quite some time (let´s say about six months) then why wouldn´t you buy Titanfall on the Xbox 360? I mean the game looks good and from what I´ve seen there isn´t really any difference with the Xbox One version unless you´re going to be a whiner about the graphics being a bit better on the Xbox One. I think Titanfall looks ...

Beating a boss is a thrill!

For me it´s always a thrill to beat a boss that´s so much bigger and stronger than you, but even with those benefits you still manage to beat him (or her). I think I found one of those big bosses first in Zelda games, this time it wasn´t about just hacking and slashing but learning the movement of the boss and strike when you have the opportunity. It seems simple but sometimes these bosses can keep you busy for quite some time, especially if you can´t figure out how to beat him (or her). The bigger they are, the harder they fall? I guess that makes sense, usually a boss that is big is also more difficult to kill. Especially when the weak spot is in a spot where you have to climb and that the road to get there isn´t that easy, I think anyone who has played Shadow of the Colussus knows what I´m talking about! But don´t be suprised if a boss goes down easy, some might look intimidating but that doesn´t have to mean a thing! The same can be said about a small boss, because event...

Looking back at.....Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance!

I was never much of a pc gamer, so it´s not a suprise that I played my first Baldur´s Gate game on a console, but this was a fun game that really wanted me to play more of these type of games. It´s actually quite simple, you play as a character that has to fight his (or her) way through levels and that usually means some mindless slaughter. When you kill you can pick up loot and that means new gear that makes you tougher or gold so you can buy new things that makes you tougher. Then there are also skill points you can use to make your character stronger. It´s better to play with a friend? As much as I enjoy playing games by myself with a game like Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance you want to have a friend with you in this adventure, because it can be boring to hack and slash your way through all the levels alone. Sharing your screen isn´t a big problem, this offline co-op system works pretty good and it makes certain moments very funny. For example in one of the first levels you have to ...

Sinful Sunday: Spoiler alert!

It seems so innocent, you´ve seen an awesome movie or played a great game and you want to talk about it with someone else. But the problem is that the other hasn´t seen that movie or played that game, so anyone who´s at least nice enough to understand that it´s rude to spoil anything keeps his or her mouth shut! Unfortunately a lot of people are probably not that nice or just have a serious problem keeping their mouth shut about certain things that could be considered as spoilers. What´s the big deal about spoiling something? It does seem like it´s not a big deal, but imagine those movies you´ve seen in the past and that you loved because of suprising moments or just amazing scenes where your mind got blown away. So what would´ve happened if someone would´ve already told you about that before you saw that? I think the effect of the suprise would be a lot less, because it was spoiled for you. Spoilers ruin the experience and that´s why it´s wrong to spoil something! I know that some...

A taste of their own medicine!

There is a saying that you should fight fire with fire, which would mean in the world of games that you beat a cheater by cheating yourself. Maybe not that literal but it might be difficult to beat a cheater that is invulnerable, but if you´re also invulnerable then at least he can´t win just like that! But doesn´t that still ruin the game for others? I mean we can´t all cheat, so maybe instead of fighting fire with fire we should just report and ignore people that cheat. Of course not everyone is a cheater, sometimes people just use cheap tricks to beat others. For example using overpowered weapons or camping. So fighting fire with fire would mean that you´d also have to use overpowered weapons and camp the fuck out of the match. I guess that could work, it´s not against the rules but I don´t think you´re going to make a lot of friends that way. But if you don´t care about such things then it´s something you could do. Even if it means that you´ll probably catch more dislikes than th...

CoD Ghosts betrays the fans?

It seems like on every CoD video I see a comment section filled with coments about how Infinity Ward has betrayed the fans, how desperate they are with their new features in the game. Of course at first you think that it´s just a group of trolls trying to provoke people but the declining number of CoD Ghosts players seems to point towards something else... I´d like to say that I do like CoD Ghosts, it´s a fantastic game and I´ve enjoyed playing it! Sure there are moments that I´m not so happy with the game, but moments of frustration don´t ruin a game for me. When I look at the big picture I see a game that offers a lot and puts you to a challenge, you die quickly and so you must be extra careful if you want to survive. I know that a lot of people hate the fact that you die so quickly in the game but instead of trying to get better they complain and abandon the game. Maybe this is the new generation of gamers, give up quickly and not really trying unless someone almost hands you th...

You know you´re a scholar when...

Let me first say that this doesn´t mean you´re a book addict, this blog is about games and not books! What I mean with a scholar in the world of games is someone that reads a lot of background stories or conversations. In a way you´re curious about what´s going on the world you play, not just shooting or slashing. Of course not every games gives you this option to read all about it, but there are several games that have enough information to keep you busy for quite some time. How do you recognize a scholar? * A scholar will most likely play more single player than multiplayer games. * Most scholars don´t rush through games, so they´re often late with playing new games. * If someone can tell you a lot of background information about a game he or she is probably a scholar! * It´s not a suprise that scholars enjoy playing as the mage class, but it´s not always a guarantee! Things you might not know about scholars: - A scholar isn´t a boring guy who has no friends, so...

Real life cosplay and in game cosplay

I like cosplay, I´m not that big into it myself but I find it cool to see some people put some serious effort in trying to look the part they´re aiming for. Some actually go pretty far with that, where others just see it as another hobby. Whatever you motivation is this is something a lot of people like to do and probably even more people like to see. But what about cosplay in games? It might suprise you but some gamers like to dress up their main character as a character from another game or from a movie. I´d say almost every game that lets you create and customize your own character gives you a chance to cosplay in a game. Of course certain mods will make it a lot easier but you don´t always need those to get something done! The Saints Row games give you a lot of choices with creating a character, so don´t be suprised to see some familiar characters in those games. But why do people cosplay in games? Probably for the same reason why they do it in real life, because it´s fun! ...

Playing for the other side in Assassin´s Creed

The new Assassin´s Creed game code name Comet is, if I have to believe the rumors, going to let you play as a templar. To me this is great news, because I always wanted to play as a templar ever since the first game. In Assassin´s Creed III you´ll play as a templar for some time, but that´s not something you realized from the start and it´s also not for that long. Still it gave me a look on the other side of the curtain. I think you can have the best objective view if you see the story on both sides and not just one side. Not that I dislike the Assassin side but I´ve always been curious about the templars, how things work there and if they´re truly that evil as the assassins like to believe. Seeing that sometimes assassins switch sides to the templars must mean that they have something interesting to offer. I don´t think a templar has ever switched sides to the assassins, unless that was a spy and of course was working for the templars the entire time. But I´m not really an expert on...
