The next generation of gamers
It feels kind of weird to talk about it but I´ve noticed that I´m not a kid anymore, there is a new generation that grows up with the newest technology and learns to use this quite well. In the time where I had to learn to use a keyboard and mouse these kids learn to use touchscreen and voice commands. I´m not saying that my generation can´t learn this, but I think that kids that grow up with such technology will master it much faster and better. That´s just the way it goes...
I was playing a game of Star Wars Angy Birds on my tablet and when my nephew visited he mastered the controls in seconds, it´s as if he knew exactly what to do. When it takes some time for me to line up a shot he does it in a few seconds, probably because I´m not that comfortable with a touchscreen or because I´m just getting old. Either way it´s no suprise that kids these days are good with computers and will most likely beat the my generation with games, if not today then there is always tomorrow! It seems a bit grim but this is really how it goes, I mean do you remember the Atari kids? Sure some of them are still around and rock on the current generation consoles but I think not all of them made the switch to modern consoles without some effort. As good as you might think you´re now on this console, that´s as bad you´re going to be on future consoles compared to people who will grow up with that.
Of course it helps that kids have fast reflexes and a big interest in discovering new things, I guess when we grow older this slowly disappears (for some of us at least). So that sometimes makes people think that games are just for kids, I strongly disagree with that! Because it doesn´t matter if you´re good or bad when it comes to playing games, the most important part is that you have fun playing games. You don´t need a certain age for that, because fun isn´t restricted to a certain age group. But I can understand that some (older) gamers might be frustrated when kids beat them at games, it sucks but you can´t really avoid that. Let´s not forget how we kicked the asses of the older gamers in our childhood. Games are fun, it doesn´t matter how old you are because you can always have fun with games. But you can´t ignore the new generation of gamers, they´ll be better and faster than us. But that´s quite alright, I still have fond memories of all the games I´ve played and that´s something no one can take away from me!
