Sinful Sunday: getting angry over nothing
I think everyone that considers himself or herself as a rager has this issue, getting angry over the slightest thing. Wether it´s a kill that wasn´t given to you or you dying way too easy can make you lose control. But I think the worst place for a rager is in an online multiplayer match, especially competitive games can really make you mad sometimes. So why play those games?
As much as you might hate losing or a bad performance, that´s probably as much as you love playing games. So it´s not easy to give that up and why should you? When you get angry very quickly then it´s probably smart not to plug in a microphone, because you don´t want to become one of those people online that goes crazy over nothing. Even if you don´t care about that, it´s not fun to be mocked by others for their amusement. As much as you might hate it, there is very little you can do about it.
Things that make me very angry are moments of bullshit, what I mean with that is when I shoot someone in the head and they don´t die in a game. I don´t expect everything to be perfect in games but a headshot is usually fatal, if I see someone walk away from that and killing me with one bullet then it´s safe to say that I´m mad. But even a bad performance in a game makes me angry, if I constantly fail then I can feel the anger rising up and it doesn´t take long for me to lose control and go crazy with anger. What does that mean? Well throwing my controller around, biting my controller or even myself, hitting myself or the wall, spitting and shouting. If you´re a rager like me then you´re probably not unfamiliar with such behaviour, but I guess some people are a bit more extreme than others about it.
What makes you angry? It can be the slightest thing, a simple death in an NES classic (falling in a hole) up to the point where I´m second away from earning a difficult achievement and then failing. Of course every situation deserves its own portion of anger, but there is no doubt that I´ll get angry. Something else that builds up anger for me is frustration, failing in a game or people that constantly beat you (most times people that camp or use one shot kill weapons) bring a lot of frustration with it. The best thing you can do is let go of that, which often means getting angry. If you don´t let go then you´ll build up more and more frustration until you´ll explode in a violent ball of destruction, which means that you don´t control yourself anymore and might even hurt someone you care about. Anger isn´t your friend and as much motivation it can give you it will always turn on those you care about.
I guess you can say that it´s only a game, it doesn´t matter who wins or who loses. But it´s not that simple for everyone, sometimes you just want to succeed. Games are meant to be fun, but getting angry usually keeps you from having fun. Still it doesn´t have to be a burden, just let go every now and then and you should feel better afterwards. Keeping all that frustration inside will usually not do you much good. I´m not saying that you should plug in and shout the entire match, but you can just be a bit more vocal about things that bother you. I´m not saying that this will cure everything, but it can make you feel a bit better afterwards!
