A modern duel

In the old days duels were quite comon, you´d fight against someone else for honor or love and that wasn´t something strange. Also a duel till death was nothing weird in those days either, but duels became forbidden and so we all behaved. Ok maybe not all of us but there is this desire deep within to best another in something, do you have that too? I guess it´s one of the reasons why I find myself playing competitive computer games, of course that´s nothing like the duels in the past but these days we have to deal with what we do have and is that really such a bad thing? I mean in these modern duels nobody dies, for as far as I know, and if you´re beaten then you can always try to win another time!


Have you ever challenged someone? I don´t think it´s that strange that you challenge family or friends, especially for guys it´s quite normal to challenge others. Of course girls can be the same about this, I can´t say for certain as I don´t know how girls behave among eachother without guys around them. I´ve heard stories but I prefer to work with facts, it doesn´t really help if I tell you things that aren´t true. But getting back to the need to challenge. Have you ever challenged your father? My father always beat me with games or anything really, so I trained and worked hard to beat him with something and I often got close as a kid and I noticed that he was less likely to accept a challenge next time. I guess it´s no suprise from who I got my I don´t want to lose behaviour, but it´s important for some people to beat someone you look up to. Maybe it´s some sort of respect you earn or it´s just something that helps you grow, I can´t really say what it is but for me it´s important.


So where does a duel fit in with the future of gaming? I think it would be interesting if you could challenge anyone at any time anywhere, which means you can go online and challenge other players who play the same game(s) as you and see who´s the better player. Of course this is all for fun and nothing to be taken too seriously, but I think it would be nice if you could go online and just sign up for some sort of duel competition and you would have to face several people every day to move up or down on the list depending on your succes. This isn´t something I would want to force on people, this is something you can sign up for, if you don´t want anything to do with this then you don´t get challenged by anyone. I do think it would make online gaming against others more intense, that you actually face someone in a one on one match. I know that a lot of games already have this challenge system, a one vs one match, but I´m talking about something that doesn´t restrict you and the other to one game but that you can choose from a lot of games. It might be lame to some but I think this is something that worth trying out. To go out in Highlander style, there can only be one!
