Addicted to gaming
Maybe you think that this is silly, but in fact there are a lot of people who actually are addicted to playing games and they can´t stop. Their social life usually suffers from this and that could cost them some friends. Let´s not forget that if you spend most of the day inside sitting behind your computer or console then your condition is going to suffer as well, meaning you´ll be weak and not in good shape. Some even go so far as to eat and sleep behind their computer or console, I haven´t heard any stories of people having their self made toilet there as well, but it would suprise me if some die hard addicts pee in bottles or something like that.
How do you know when you´re addicted to gaming? That´s not that difficult to figure out, I´d say if you find yourself playing games over eight hours on a day then that´s more than the average gamer, which points to an addiction. Of course there can always be times that you feel like playing more and longer than other times, so if you spend a Saturday or Sunday playing games then that doesn´t directly make you an addict. But if you play a whole week every day games for more than eight hours then it´s safe to say that you´re addicted. This seems simple but a lot of people who are addicted don´t always realize that themselves, because to them it´s just spending time doing something they like. I´ve been there myself, playing games till deep in the night and when my eyes started to bleed I´d stop playing. Of course that´s very unhealthy and I can´t recommend that to anyone. But when you play games and you´re having fun then it doesn´t feel wrong, so it´s not always that easy to figure out that you should take a break or just do something else.
What can you do about a game addiction? Of course you can sell your games and/or destroy your console but that´s not a smart thing to do, you see playing games isn´t a bad thing but too much of something is. So instead of never playing games again you can also make certain rules for yourself where you play one or two hours on a day or when you´re into multiplayer games just a couple of matches on one day. This way you can still enjoy playing games but you keep more time available for other things. As a parent it might be tricky to force such rules on your child and they might hate you for it, but in the end it´s for the best and as a parent you´re not supposed to be a friend of your child but a parent! Of course that doesn´t mean you have to be enemies or anything like that, it just means that sometimes you´ll have to make the tough decisions and they won´t always like you for that. If you find out that you´re addicted to gaming then it´s smart to slowly decrease the amount of time you spend on gaming and try to find other things you can do. Even if you don´t enjoy going outside then maybe you can watch movies or solve a puzzle? Ok not the most exciting things you can do but it´s better than spending too much time on gaming.
