Looking back at.....Silent Hill!
Have you ever stepped into the madness of Silent Hill? If not then I can definately recommend it, at least if you´re up to it! Silent Hill isn´t your typical survival horror game, it´s a game that doesn´t just try to scare you but to make you feel uncomfortable most of the time. Weird noises and disturbing surroudings make every step you make in this game as uncomfortable as it can be, because if you want to describe the Silent Hill games then disturbing might be the best word for it.
At first you might not believe it, I mean you enter a village with a background full of fog. Nothing seems weird here, just a quiet and peaceful village until you encounter your first monster and you hear a siren when suddenly the peaceful village turns into a place that comes straight out of someones nightmare! In the first game you play as Harry Mason who is going to Silent Hill with his daughter, but when they arrive at Silent Hill he almost hits someone and while evading he hits his head and the car stops. When he wakes up he sees that his daughter is gone and he decides to go look for her. This is where everything goes wrong and he encounters some of the less friendly creatures in Silent Hill, but next to monsters and puzzles Harry also meets some other people. Some seem to be weird and others just crazy, either way it doesn´t really help him with his search for his daughter. It´s not a super story that will blow you away but the way it grabs you by the throat and stuffs some disturbing images and sounds in your eyes and ears does make it more than your average survival horror game!
So is the first Silent Hill game the only one worth buying? No I think Silent Hill 2 and3 are also quite worth buying, because the second game is just fantastic in a very disturbing way while the third game continues the story of the first game. The graphics in the first game might be bad but it´s quite the journey and it´s definately worth checking out! Silent Hill 2 is on the Playstation 2 so that one is looking much better than the first game, which means better graphics and that makes playing it a bit more fun but also the story is very good. I actually like the second game more than the first because of that, that even after playing and finishing the game several times I still don´t feel like I know exactly what it is about. Hm maybe that sounds like a bad thing but what I mean is that the game is just so weird that it might take you some time to let it all sink into your mind, well maybe not too deep because it is disturbing! The other three games that game after that Silent Hill the room, Silent Hill homecoming and Silent Hill downpour are mediocre games compared to the first three games. Sure the graphics look nice but they´re much more combat orientated games instead of really trying to create a disturbing game. Also the creatures seem to respawn very quickly after you defeated them and do I have to mention those annoying ghosts in Silent Hill the room? I hope that one day we´ll get a Silent Hill game that lives up to the first three, that would be nice and it would definately be a game I´d like to buy!
