Looking back at.....the Sims!
I think everyone has heard of the Sims, it´s probably one of the most popular games of the last decade. A lot of people have at least tried the Sims, not everybody likes it but those that do are often hooked on that game for quite some time. I wasn´t that different, it´s such a funny game that gives you so much freedom to do some crazy and interesting things! But with great power comes great responsibility?
How do you get addicted to the Sims? That´s not a difficult question, with all the sims you can make and the things you can do with your sims then it doesn´t take much to try some interesting things. What happens if you take away the ladder in the pool or what happens if I decide not to go to the bathroom. Sometimes it might seem a bit sadistic, to kill your sims, but in a way it´s still entertainment. But that wasn´t the biggest motivation for me, I loved putting a sim based on me in the game. Then I´d have some crazy adventures with that sim, trying to find a job or flirting with the girl next door. I remember the first time my sim pissed in his pants, the response of my sim was just hilarious! Of course later that became a bit annoying when I was in a hurry but at first it´s all funny. But what about building your own house? I´d say anyone with creativity or some patience can make something unique. Of course it´s not that easy, I mean building a house isn´t a big challenge but if you want to make something good then you´re often busy for some hours especially if you work on details.
The Sims games have many expansions, are they worth it? Yes the Sims expansions often give you new items, but also new clothes and sometimes new locations. Then you have expansions where you can do new things or even get pets, in the world of the Sims almost anything is possible. Which is probably why it´s so popular, the choices are yours and the options seem endless!
What about the other Sims games, are they better? The Sims 2 gives you 3D, which means some more depth and also wishes that your sim has and that gives you rewards if you complete that. Everything looks of course better and you have a bit more freedom. The Sims 3 enhanced that freedom even more by allowing you to walk around in the neighbourhood without loading screens or anything like that! Now you can also pass on genetic traits of your sims on your kids, which can be funny but sometimes also a bit frustrating when they become an angry douchebag as yourself. This year the Sims 4 will launch and I´m curious what that will bring, I must admit I haven´t really been checking any trailers and I don´t think you really need to. It´s often more of the same but then things look a bit better and you get something extra that makes that game a bit more than the others. A lot of people will still buy it and that´s quite alright, the Sims games are fun and even if they´re not as original as they used to they´re still a lot of fun to play!
