Movie Monday: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

It took so long but finally we got a sequel to the Indiana Jones trilogy and what's even better is that it's with some of the original actors. That's great but a bit late though, because everyone looks eh old. Which isn't terrible but it doesn't really fit with the Indiana Jones we know and love from the movie trilogy. But that didn't even bother me that much, no it was the introduction of his successor that really bothered me.

Indiana Jones junior?

There was actually a tv show about the younger years of Indiana Jones junior, it was called Young Indiana Jones. I actually liked that one and it gave you something instead of a new Indiana Jones movie. But now we finally have a new Indiana Jones movie and they introduce this character that is the son of Indiana Jones. Not that I want to say that the actor is terrible but it just felt so weird seeing this guy show up and oh yeah he's the son of Indiana Jones. That just doesn't make sense at all, ok in a way it does but it felt so forced and as if he would take over now that Indiana Jones is too old or something like that. It just didn't feel right to me and I just rejected that idea. Hopefully if there ever will be another Indiana Jones movie they better hurry up because Harrison Ford, who plays the role of Indiana Jones, isn't getting any younger!

So this is the worst Indiana Jones movie of them all?

Unfortunately it is and I have to admit that I had high hopes for this movie but it still kind of hurts to first see the trilogy and then look at kingdom of the crystal skull. It just feels like kingdom of the crystal skull is a weird movie shoved in the Indiana Jones universe, which doesn't automaticly make it a bad movie but it was less entertaining as the original trilogy. I did like the the main antagonist, she looks really cool and it was something else than the constant Nazi threat in the previous movies. Ok it's always fun when you see a bunch of these assholes wasted on the screen but after three movies it was time for something else and I guess looking at the time where the movie takes place, the Cold War, it makes sense that the Russians are the enemy. The item what it's all about is a bit weird, I mean magic, things from legend and ritual stuff that is one thing but then making the big step to aliens is just a step too far in my opinion. Not that I disagree about the existence of aliens but that doesn't mean I want to see them in every movie nor do I think they fit in every movie just like that.

Should you see this movie?

That depends, if you can take a hit after seeing the Indiana Jones trilogy then you should be fine. Just be prepared that things aren't going to be as good as you might have expected. If kingdom of the crystal skull is your first Indiana Jones movie then I can recommend checking out the original trilogy because that's much better! But let me say it once more, kingdom of the crystal skull isn't a bad movie, but it would be too much honour to say it's a good movie. I'd say it's a movie that you can watch and isn't that bad. I just hope that if there's going to be another Indiana Jones movie that it will be better.
