Movie Monday: Ace Ventura Pet Detective.
Ace Ventura pet detective was one of those movies I didn't know much about as a kid but decided to see anyway. I was already familiar with Jim Carrey with the silly movie Once Bitten and the hilarious movie the Mask. So Ace Ventura had to be good as well, right? Right!
This is the most absurd movie?
Well maybe not the most absurd but there are some moments that really made me laugh a lot. For example who can forget the assholemio song, it's when Ace is holding his butt cheeks and pretends to be talking and singing with them to a cop. That should immediately give you an idea what kind of humour you can expect, but even if it's a bit immature it's still hilarious! The story is also kind of silly because a dolphin is stolen and Ace has to find the dolphin, but who would steal a dolphin? Well I can't tell you that without spoiling the movie but it is quite the reveal! The ridiculous methods of Ace and of course Jim Carrey who is on fire the entire movie, well not literally but he makes it almost impossible for you not to laugh.
One of the best Jim Carrey movies?
I think it is, because with the Mask and Ace Ventura pet detective he pretty much made a name for himself on the big screen. But the movies are also full energy and silly humour that just make you laugh. They're great movies for when you feel a bit sad or could use something to cheer you up. What makes Ace Ventura so special is that it's a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and at the same time gives you a reasonable story and interesting characters in that movie. Maybe some things are a bit too crazy but in the world of Ace Ventura crazy is just another day on the job!
Why should you see this movie?
A simple answer would be that it's a funny movie, hilarious even at times. But is that enough to watch this movie? Well it helps if you like the less serious Jim Carrey movies and aren't allergic to silly things. Don't expect to find the holy grail of movie magic here, but just a silly movie with a lot of humour in it. If that's what you like then you can't go wrong with Ace Ventura!
