Sinful Sunday: I hate farming! (in games)

Some games let you roam around, you can do whatever you want but to get certain items or if you just want to see if you're lucky with a good item drop then you often have to farm. Farming in games means killing enemies over and over again and hoping that someone drops something you need and/or want. This doesn't seem like a bad thing and then you spend hours on it and still haven't gotten what you are looking for, then you know that farming isn't just lame but that it's very frustrating as well!

What makes farming so frustrating?

The fact that you have no guarantees, for example you can kill enemies for hours and not get one good item out of it. Which means you've been wasting hours on something that didn't get you anything, which isn't just boring but also a complete waste of time. Some people might say this about games anyway but farming is really the worst when it comes to certain games because you can really just play the game for hours and not get anything useful. It does help if you play with a friend so it's a bit less frustrating but you might have to deal with other frustration, you know where your friend does get good items and you end up with getting nothing good. I guess that's the risk of farming with friends in games.

But why do you hate farming?

Because it's an absolute waste of time! Ok if you can level up at the same time and make actual progress in the game then it's a bit less bad but it still resolves around mindless killing of enemies in a place without anything else but that. I like some story, do other thing and just don't be in the same spot for hours just killing enemies hoping for a lucky item drop. I'm not lucky in games, so I know that it will take forever to get the item I want so I hardly see the point in farming unless it's tied to an achievement or if I really need it to make it further in the game. But I try to avoid farming as much as possible because I find it annoying, boring, frustrating and completely unrewarding most of the time! I'm not saying that I never got anything good from farming, but condering how many hours I spent on farming I'd say that half of the time it just wasn't worth it.

So why do developers still make this a thing in games?

The thing is that nobody forces you to farm, but if you want to get better gear then you might have to farm unless you get a very lucky item drop during a mission or quest. Just so you know, this hardly ever happens. So those of us that really want that special item or more powerful item will have to farm, just keep on killing enemies (something very specific enemies because they're the only ones that drop a certain item) and hope that you get lucky. But the drop rate of certain items is already completely stupid. I mean if you need the eye of a creature then why do you have to slay 50 of them to get just one eye? The other 49 had no eyes? It makes no sense and it's pretty much just utter bullshit! I have to admit that I don't have the patience for farming and I absolutely don't have the luck to get anything good, so you can imagine that I just don't want to be bothered with this. So if I can avoid farming then I will, no matter how many times developers keep putting it in a game. My guess of why they put this in a game is to keep you busy, because why would you get items you need directly? Isn't it more fun to waste hours on killing enemies just hoping you might just get the item you need? Oh yes, great fun indeed! I think I would rather waste my time on other games that just let me do whatever I want without me having to do mindless bullshit like farming.
