Addicted to mini games?
It seems like more and more games have mini games inside the game, so if you get bored of doing missions or roaming around then you can just take a seat and play these mini games. The problem is that some of these mini games are very addictive, up to the point where you don't even continue with the story but just keep playing the mini game. Has that ever happened to you? Well it's not a big problem but it does keep you from making any progress in the game.
What makes mini games so much fun?
It can be something really simple, for example being addicted to succes. As long as you keep winning the mini game you want to keep playing it. I have this a lot with Gwent lately in the Witcher 3, I got pretty good at it and now I just go from place to place looking for other Gwent players. The fact that I haven't played any story missions for a couple of days isn't even bothering me at this moment. But other mini games like Blitzball in Final Fantasy X and Triple Triad in Final Fantasy VIII also kept me busy for a long time. It's the rush of victory, earning new things and the fun I have playing these games that kept me going for so long. With Gwent I can earn new rare cards, the same counts for Triple Triad and with Blitzball I could manage my team and improve the skills of my team members or get new members and make them better. It's a very addictive and so much fun to play these mini games and it would surprise me if future games will have more of these mini games.
How do you break the addiction?
That's easier said than done, but my advice is pretty simple. What you need to do is just select a mission and no matter what happens you stay on that mission! Don't check for other things to do but stay on the mission! Distraction is your enemy here, so the moment you see something else you would like to check out you're already at risk. Not that it's such a bad thing to play mini games but spending days on that seems a bit much. But I guess the most important thing about a game is that you're having fun. So one person enjoys playing story missions, another person want to explore and then there are people that want to do all the side missions or play some mini games. It doesn't really matter what you do in the game, as long as you're having fun!
