Looking back at.....the Movies!

Have you ever played the Movies? It´s probably one of my favourite games on the pc, because it gives you so many options to work out crazy ideas or just let your creativity go berserk with something. So what is the Movies? The Movies is a game where you own a movie studio, which means you have to manage a lot of things next to making movies. That means hiring actors, directors and also staff to help with the movies or keep the movie studio in good condition. In the story mode, if you have to give it a name, you start in the early 20´s and move through the history of movie making and also the history of the world. With each era you get a different radio station host and of course music, which is a funny distraction from all that creative work. Also clothing and technology changes over the years, something you can upgrade to improve the quality of your movies. There isn´t a real ending to the game, but I usually stop when I pass the year 2000 because there aren´t any new historic events in the game after that point.


What´s so funny about making movies? You can create your own actors so in a way you could put yourself in a movie, which is funny to see yourself in a horror movie or a comedy. You could make a silly science fiction movie with space pirates in dresses or a thriller where the killer uses a rubber chicken as the murder weapon. It´s all up to you, because you decide how a movie is going to be. Of course you can also choose for an automatic version, which goes a lot faster because for the other one you have to work on every scene and that can take hours. That is a bit of a negative point but really when you´re busy with the movie you´ll forget the time and just have fun with that. I really like one of the highschool movies I made, it´s about my teenage years and it was a blast to put my friends in that movie. It´s a comedy and suprisingly enough people actually like it! Because when you were done with making your own movie you could post it online and then others could watch and rate it. Unfortunately the site is no longer available, which is a big shame really. Still that doesn´t take the fun away with making your own unique movie!


I really miss this game, it´s a shame that there isn´t another game just like this or at least uses the same idea as this. Sure you have Zoo Tycoon or Rollercoaster Tycoon but I don´t like that as much as the Movies. I want a game where I can make movies just the way I like it, with a lot of different sets and crazy options to make your own piece of art or just something silly. I know that a lot of gamers like to play first person shooters or play a mmorpg, but I think there are also people like me that would like a game that offers you a chance to be creative. It might seem silly but I´m still hoping for a sequel to the Movies, the dlc Stunts and Effects is fun but I think it´s time for a new game!
