Zombi, just another zombie game?

I know that there are a lot of haters out there that love to spew their filth over games and the game Zombi isn't an exception. Zombi is the PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One version of ZombiU for the WiiU and it looks pretty cool. Sure it's a zombie game and yes there are a lot of zombie games out there but that doesn't make this game automaticly crap! What's so special about this zombie game? In Zombi you have some close encounters with zombies, which means you'll have to fight to survive at close range and not some safe shooting from a mile away. This makes the action intense and your struggle to survive even bigger because the zombies will eat you alive if you're not careful! Remember those moments in the Walking Dead game (from Telltale games) when a zombie would jump on your character and you'd have to mash buttons to get it off? Well this feels a lot like that, but then faster and more intense! But you can use guns? Sure, but I think it might be ...

Goodbye splitscreen?

Well it's official now, there's no splitscreen mode in Halo 5. I think this is a huge setback for everyone that loves to play games with a friend on the couch. Sure a lot of people play online with eachother these days but it's nice if the splitscreen option is there, which means you can play together when you're visiting a friend. Let's not forget playing games with your girlfriend, which is also nice if you can play together on one console instead of having to buy two just to be able to play together. For me this is a step back and I don't approve of this at all! Why is splitscreen so important? Because it allows you to play with a friend of your boyfriend/girlfriend when you're in the same house or living together. I mean if there is no more splitscreen then visiting a friend means that you can't play games together. Oh sure there are some games where you share the same screen (all the action happens on one screen without the need to split the scr...

Playing games makes you evil?

That sounds like it's made up by some religious zealots that consider everyone and everything different then what they know as wrong (in their language that's already evil). You'd probably laugh at this idea but for the sake of filling a page let's get to the bottom (or as long as I feel like talking about it) of this ridiculous idea. Games affect you? I won't deny that, a sad moment can make me cry and a happy moment can make me laugh. But I still don't see how killing virtual characters in a game makes me want to kill real people, because people who do that are usually very disturbed and to blame it all on games seems cheap and lazy. Because there are usually a lot of things that happened in someones life that makes them go over the edge. That doesn't mean that games can't inspire or help realize a sick fantasy, for example that moment in Modern Warfare 2 where your character can (it's optional for you) shoot civilians. Of course you also have ...

People want to play old CoD games?

A couple of weeks ago I told you about backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, which is great news for everone that is still holding on to his or her Xbox 360 games. People could vote which Xbox 360 game they wanted to be able to play first on their Xbox One. To my surprise a lot of old CoD games appeared in the top ten list. Is that a coincidence or are Xbox gamers CoD fanboys and girls? CoD games are good? Sure, but to see multiple CoD games in the top ten list is just strange. At least that's how I see it because there are so many games out there and that most people would vote for CoD is just weird. I mean CoD in a nutshell is shooting other people, which is fun but there are plenty of other games that offer you that as well. What I'm trying to say is that CoD isn't unique and not something I would put ahead of other titles that offer you so much more. There are platform games, RPGs, third person shooters, action/adventure or even survival horror games that are al...

The Wolf Among Us season 2?

The Wolf among us is definitely one of my favourite games for quite some time, so you can imagine that I'm looking forward to seeing a season two for this game. I won't spoil the ending but season one definitely left room for a season two. So Telltale games please make it happen! Is there going to be a season 2? It's definitely possible and the rumors are suggesting that it could happen in 2016, unfortunately nothing has been confirmed so it could just be wishful thinking. I guess we'll have to be patient and wait for a confirmation or disappointment. But looking at the succes and popularity of season one I can't imagine that Telltale wouldn't make a season 2 for the Wolf among us. Why should there be a season 2? Because the Wolf among us is an amazing game and the fans want to see more of that! Ok that's at least how I see it, but I don't feel that we're done with the characters and the story. I think there is still a lot of potential in thi...

Romance in Fallout 4?

I must admit that I'm suprised, not only does your playable character speak he or she can also romance his or her companions. Does that remind you of another game or perhaps even multiple games? Anyway it's nice that you can do other things than explore and kill, I mean we all need some time to relax every now and then and what better way to relax than to share some virtual romance with a made up character. How does this work? Well I don't know the exact details but apparently you can romance one out of twelve companions and this also includes your dog and some robots. Wait...what?!!! Yes as strange as that sounds you can romance robots and your dog, but I take it that with the dog it's some type of BFF thing instead of actual romance. I also don't know how that works with the robots but who knows maybe in the future they found a solution for that, I mean I did see that movie where robots can look like humans and you can have...well enough of that! It also doesn...

If you never played games...

I was thinking about how I first started playing games, but then I couldn't help but think how my life would've looked now if I never started playing games or if I never liked playing games. Just think about it, if you never played games or never liked playing games then you probably would be doing something else with your life or do you think you would've end up in the exact same place as you did now? Games don't define who you are? No but the type of games you play do say something about you. I mean if you like survival horror games then you probably also like horror movies or thrillers. It's not a guarantee but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. If you like sport games or fitness games then you're probably someone that likes to watch sport on tv or maybe you even are a member of a sportclub or do some exercizes yourself every now and then. Once again this isn't a guarantee, but it definitely wouldn't surprise me if it's true. So in a way...

Batgirl dlc, worth checking out?

You've probably heard people talk about the high price of the season pass for Batman Arkham Knight, so you're probably wondering if it's worth checking out. Well I think it is, sure it's a bit pricey but you do get some nice content and hopefully you have more fun with a good game. The first piece of dlc you get with the season pass is the Batgirl dlc where you play as Batgirl and you have to save her father Gordon. Batgirl is cool? Absolutely, she has some cool moves that are a bit different then the moves you see Batman use and yet they're just as effective. What's also cool is that Batgirl has some nice hacking skills she can use to take multiple enemies down in quick succession. You even get yourself an achievement or trophy if you can take out four in one such moment. In a way a lot of things that light up orange are things you hack or at least interact with. Sure some people make the Watchdogs joke but seriously it's a fun trick and doesn't hav...

It's a good time to be a gamer?

About twenty years ago you probably wouldn't say out loud that you're a gamer, most of your friends probably weren't into playing games (for as far as you know) and it wasn't considered as cool to play games. That doesn't mean that games were crap, but when you look at games today you see amazing titles that just blow you away. On top of that it's cool to play games and people don't hide this hobby anymore, actually it goes so far that people that don't play games are considered as the losers. It's strange how some things change... Does it matter what others think? Let me first say that I never cared what others thought of my hobby, I like playing games and it never stopped me from revealing that or playing games. But I can understand that some people would be more reluctant to share this information with others, especially if you didn't know how they feel about playing games. To earn a reputation could take years and you can lose it in secon...

Boyfriend/girlfriend or games?

When you like to play games, a lot, then your boyfriend or girlfriend might not be so happy with that (unless they like games just as much as you and love playing games with you). This can lead to some unpleasant arguments that sometimes lead to a break up. It's not always that extreme but sometimes people don't understand why you like games or you spend more time on games then on your boyfriend or girlfriend which makes him or her unhappy. Games are important? To some people they are, especially when you spend a big part of the day playing games. It's not surprising to then realize that games are important to you and that they play a big part in your life, so when someone else tries to be a part of your life then he or she might feel like he or she has to compete with these games. I'm not saying that this is all the fault of the gamer, because if you like playing games then your boyfriend or girlfriend will have to accept that. But that doesn't mean that it...

Looking back at.....Super Mario Bros. 2!

This was the first game I owned, I got it with the NES on my tenth birthday and at that moment that was like the best thing ever! Finally I could play games at my own house and play as much as I wanted. Of course I wouldn't sit all day behind the tv but I did spend quite some time playing games from that moment on. But what makes Super Mario Bros. 2 so much fun? Well it's diverse and offers you several levels that you need to beat, when you're ten years old then that can be a challenge! But it's also fun to play a Mario game, especially if it offers you a lot to do. Mario and friends. In the first Super Mario Bros game you could play as Mario and as Luigi, but the difference wasn't that big apart from the different outfit colours. That changed in Super Mario Bros 2 where you could definitely see the tall Luigi and the shorter Mario, but you could also play as Peach and my personal favourite Toad. Each character has his or her own special trick that makes this ch...

Sinful Sunday: I don't like good endings

This probably sounds weird but I must admit that I'm not a big fan of happy endings, oh sure in some games or movies it fits but sometimes I'm secretly rooting for the villain. Especially when the villain is more interesting than the hero or when the hero is such an annoying douchebag that you just want to see the villain succeed. But does that make me weird? Maybe... Villains are more popular now? I think so, I mean just look at Loki who has a large group of desperate fans that love him and maybe it also helps that the actor (Tom Hiddleston) who plays as Loki in the movies is a man with good looks. But looks don't always make a villain popular, sometimes it's also the personality or just the matter of how cruel and effective a villain is. Just look at Freddy Krueger that scares the shit out of a lot of people and yet a lot of people love this character. Games and movies have picked this up and so you get movies that put the concentration on the villain instead of t...

Winning/losing, does it really matter?

My twenty year old version would probably scream yes at this point, but when you get older you (hopefully) become mature and winning and losing don't seem that important anymore. But how much of that is true? Do people just say they don't care or is it really true? Winning is important? That depends what you're after, if you're an achievement or trophy hunter like me then winning will be necessary to get certain achievements/trophies. So wether you find it important or not you still need victories to get some achievements/trophies. But then there is also the winning gets you better weapons or other items system where winning can mean the difference between getting better gear or having to deal with the same shit. Usually winning also helps you level up faster in multiplayer, if that's a thing in multiplayer at least, so once again people will often play to win in multiplayer so they can get better stuff and level up faster. Unfortunately most people will want th...

Just Cause 3 is insane!

Did you see the gameplay trailer of Just Cause 3? It's amazing how smooth Rico, the main character, moves and handles weapons and vehicles. There isn't a slow animation like in GTA V to get into vehicles, it's a rollercoaster and you're in front enjoying every bit of the ride! What do you do? You play as Rico Rodriquez and you're send to topple some dictator on an island. At this point that's nothing special but it's cool to get your hands dirty with some sabotage, demolition and just full frontal assault on strongholds of the enemy. There are multiple ways of undermining the power of the dictator, for example you can destroy statues or stop the propaganda from spreading. But you can also attack a base or important points that prevent the enemy from moving around freely, think of a bridge you can blow up. Ultimate freedom of movement? It looks that way at least, because you can grapple up to get yourself in the air and then you can stay in the air wi...

Gears of War 4 is good?

A lot of Gears of War fans didn't like Gears of War Judgement and I'm actually surprised that there is a Gears of War 4 coming after that game. Personally I enjoyed playing Gears of War Judgement but I think I'm one of the few when it comes to that opinion. So what can you expect from Gears of War 4? Well let's take a closer look... Where's Marcus? I think everyone that saw the six minute gameplay video of E3 were wondering where Marcus is, the main character from the first three Gears of War games. Well I'm getting the idea that this game is also going to be Marcus free, as in he doesn't show up and isn't a playable character. Of course it's early to say for certain because you just see two character investigating something in the video. But their look makes me think that this takes place before Gears of War 3, because in Gears of War 3 all the gears look a bit scruffy and walk around without a shirt or some raggy bit hanging around their torso....

Do gamers influence the game market?

This seems easy, you say yes because popular games get sequels and games that sell terribly get nothing. Well it's not that simple because sometimes moderate games also get a sequel and very popular games don't get a sequel. Even if you as a gamer influence the game market, how much of a difference do you actually make? That's difficult to say but I do think it's safe to say that gamers have some influence on the game market. At least as long as the majority buys or ignores certain games, the same can be said about dlc for some games. The gamer decides? Up to a certain point I'd say, because you don't decide how the game will look like and other features. But a lot of developers do listen to fans and then they check the feedback after a first reveal or when people are allowed to play the game for the first time in a trial version. So as a gamer you definitely have some influence, not seperately but as a whole (in other words the community). After Dragon Age ...

Game addiction?

It might seem silly to some people but it really exists, a game addiction. This means that you can't stop playing games, so you're playing games every day and on that day you often play games for a long time (about 8 or 10 hours at least). Maybe that doesn't even sound extreme to you, but anything more than that is just worse. But is it really so bad? I mean you're playing games, that's not a bad thing. Right? How does it start? Actually quite innocent, you like to play games and so you play games. If nobody stops you and you have nothing else that you want to do then it's easy to spend a lot of hours on gaming. This can go on up to the point where you spend most of the day playing games and only play games. You wake up, maybe you take a shower or get some food and then it's time to play games which will go on until you get hungry again or if something else comes up. But if you're not disturbed and hunger doesn't stop you then it's easy to sp...

Looking back at.....Dead Rising 2!

After the first Dead Rising game a lot of people were excited about Dead Rising 2, it had the whole bigger and better package attached to it and yet somehow it wasn't so well received by the fans. Oh sure some people, like me, like Dead Rising 2 but then there are also people that hated it. Is it really such a bad game? Let's take a closer look... You and your daughter against the world. So first of all you play as Chuck and you have a daughter, maybe this doesn't seem interesting but when you think that your daughter has been bitten by a zombie and now you need to get Zombrex (medicine that keeps you from turning into a zombie after you've been bitten by one) every 12 hours or else she'll turn into a zombie. If that happens it's not game over, it just means that you failed the main story and you just have to hold out the remaining time and hopefully do better next time. This time you're in a bigger mall, well it's more a type of entertainment plaza ...

Sinful Sunday: Games you're embarrassed about

I think we've all played games that aren't exactly something you're proud of playing. But that didn't stop us from playing those games, so what is so interesting about these games? Or are some of us just a bunch of losers that play games just to see some action? It wouldn't surprise me... Seeing (half) naked women isn't a crime? I don't think you need games for that though, especially if you've got internet then you should be able to find something a lot more interesting than some fictional character in a sexy outfit. But that doesn't mean that you don't want to see that. I mean Catwoman in Arkham Knight looks quite tempting and there's nothing wrong with that, but then there are also games like Dead or Alive where the female character all have big breasts and wear sometimes the most ridiculous outfits. That's not terrible but too much of something is never a good thing! Besides if that's how you present your characters then don...

Surviving Summer with games

If you're one of the people that doesn't like being out in the sun, if you don't like warm temperatures, if you dislike spending time with other people out in public and just hate getting wet or spending any time near the beach then there's a good chance you're not a fan of Summer. So how do you survive this season? With games! Surviving Summer with games? That's right, spending some quality time with your computer and/or console and play games. Why force yourself to spend time outside where you're miserable when you can be inside and do something you do like. It's not like it's the end of the world if you don't want to be out in the sun, oh sure your parents might be complaining but if your skin is sensitive to the sun then you can't spend much time outside anyway. So it's better to spend your time wisely, which means play some games! That's not healthy, is it? Spending every day inside isn't healthy, but it's not dea...

Keep playing Destiny or not?

When I look at the Taken King dlc for Destiny then I have to admit that it looks cool, but to be honest that was never the problem with Destiny. The problem I have with Destiny is that solo players or people that don't know other people that play Destiny have difficulties reaching the max level and getting everything out of the game. Missing out on the raids is one thing but then you also have to miss out on higher arenas of the prison of elders, trials of Osiris, armor and weapons that's only available if you play these game types where you have to be in a team of at least three or more people. That's rough and it completely ruins Destiny for me. Is the Taken King dlc worth buying? It looks cool, but I'm pretty certain it's going to be more of the same stuff you've had to deal with so far in Destiny. Which means people that don't know other people that play Destiny will have to miss out on a lot of things and will have a hard time reaching the highest l...

Batman Arkham Knight

I was very excited about this game and I thought that this game would be one of the best of this year, well things didn't turn out that great in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Arkham Knight is a cool game and definitely fun to play but I can't say it's amazing or that it's the best game in the Arkham game series. Maybe I'm a bit harsh here but I think it's only fair to be honest and not tell people what they might expect or want to hear. Chaos in the city. The story starts already quite disturbing as you experience in first person view how it is to be exposed to the fear toxin of Scarecrow. Then you quickly find out that it's not just one villain, it's all villains plus a small army that tries to destroy Batman and Gotham City with it. There is also the mysterious Arkham Knight, which turned out not to be a big mystery because I guessed who he was or at least I had a strong feeling that it would be that person. Which was a bit of a disappointmen...
