Violent games make you a dangerous person or not?

These days it´s nothing new, you open the newspaper or turn on the tv and you see another idiot who did something terrible. A teenager or young adult that shoots innocent people, why did he do that? The ´experts´ quickly come with some vague arguments that there might be a connection with games, because the violence in games must have twisted this young innocent mind into a raging lunatic.Often these ´experts´ don´t know anything about games, they have never played one and probably have no idea what gaming is about. I know that gaming isn´t for everyone but to judge something you know nothing about is just another sign of ignorance, maybe these ´experts´ should stick to what they do best and that´s talking bullocks on tv about the current crisis you see in the news. Perhaps it would be better if they actually played games and then see for themselves that violent games don´t make a person dangerous!

It doesn´t matter how violent a game is, it won´t make you more violent then you already are. If you´re a violent person then that´s probably because you´re just that way, there isn´t always a big explanation why you are the person you are. I would be careful with exposing children to violent games, but if everyone does their work then kids will never get their hands on these games. I don´t think everyone has to suffer because some parents can´t keep an eye on their kids or that certain shops sell violent games to kids, it´s unfair if adults can´t play a game because of a possible risk that kids might play those games too.

I won´t pretend that some games don´t make you angry. It´s actually quite common to be angry at something. For example: being killed for the tenth time by someone who is camping, dying just in front of a checkpoint, your game freezes and you haven´t saved for some time, being taunted by an annoying person or when you´re just unable to finish a game because it´s too difficult or frustrating. I think we´ve all been there, a moment of frustration where things just don´t go as you would like to see them go. But does that make you dangerous? Is the guy or girl who is frustrated in a shop because he or she forgot her wallet dangerous? Frustration and irritation is everywhere, games are not excluded.

Actually I think that games are good for letting people blow off some steam, it´s good to get rid of this frustration and irritation that would otherwise build up in you. That would make you a bit more explosive and perhaps a bit less pleasant to be around with. I know that I find peace in playing games, shouting at the screen does help me find some peace afterwards. Sure my neighbours probably hate me but then again when they´re fighting I have to hear that as well, I guess we all have our own way of dealing with these negative emotions but it´s best that you deal with it instead of letting it build up inside you. I´m not saying that games are perfect for people with anger issues, but it might help them vent some of that anger away. It´s better to shout at a screen than someone on the street!

Violent games aren´t for everyone, but I think that´s more for people who sell them to decide than a government. If you´re an adult then you probably know what´s best for you, if not then the people that watch over you probably will know. A violent game doesn´t make someone violent, a violent nature makes someone violent. Where does a violent nature come from? Well it´s easy to blame games but really there were enough people with a violent nature before games where even invented, so stop blaming an easy target! Games are made to be fun, sure some can be frustrating and irritating but in the end it´s meant to be fun. It´s true that not everyone has fun playing games, but maybe they take it a bit too serious and have been playing for too long. Games like CoD Ghosts and GTA V shouldn´t be judged as dangerous games because of the violence in the games. They´re meant to be fun and if people who know nothing about games would stop bothering people who do know about games, then maybe people can actually experience how much fun it is to play games.
