Camper vs Lone Wolf
For every gamer that likes to play solo in a multiplayer match a camper is probably your worst enemy. Though a lot of lone wolfs turn out to be campers as well, so maybe it´s a two sided medallion. Anyway as a lone wolf you like to go your own way, you break free from the group and explore on your own. Probably you like to move around, see places and go explore the enemy side of the multiplayer map. But then suddenly you get shot down, some coward was hiding behind an obstacle or in some (dark) corner waiting for a brave idiot to get too close.
I don´t think I have to mention how frustrating it is to encounter campers, especially when you´re interested in exploring a new map or when you´re trying to rack up some kills. They ruin the game, because they take all the speed out of it. You can´t move quickly on the map because there might be a camper around the corner, but at the same time you have to keep moving because if you move to slow someone can sneak up behind you. But can you really blame campers? As a camper would say: "camping is a legitimate strategy". Yes but it´s not getting you any respect, something a lot of these desperate types seem to think they deserve.
Some gamers are truly die hard campers, from the start of the match they crawl in their little hiding hole and won´t come out unless they´re killed or when their victim is so badly wounded that they feel brave enough to crawl out for a moment. I´m not going to say that I don´t get it, everybody likes a kill streak because it usually gets you some nice rewards and it looks good when you have a lot more kills than deaths. But afterwards you have to hear them boast, how good they are and that they´re MLG. Ok let me help you out of the dream campers, camping is by far one of the most cowardly and least skillful things you can do. Calling yourself MLG while being a camper is an insult to people who really are MLG, so don´t fool yourself and learn to run and shoot! Though I must give campers credit for being the most boring players out there, staring through your scope for minutes just hoping that someone will get near them. That takes patience and dedication, so congratulations for that!
But what about the lone wolves? Is it smart to break away from the team and go your own way? Probably not, because alone you´re more vulnerable and when people team up on you then you´ll have a more difficult time defeating them. But you can´t really blame people for that behaviour, the communication in multiplayer matches isn´t always what you´d call the type of communication you´d want to hear. Singing, raging, taunting and who knows what else. I´d say the most helpful communication you´ll get is when you play with friends who are seriously trying to win, though that might be boring as well. I´d say having fun is the most important part of gaming!
So how do you deal with campers? Well the best thing you can do is not deal with them. I know that sounds weird but let me explain. Campers usually know the map pretty good, so trying to sneak up on them will be difficult. A camper will count on you to run towards him (or her, I won´t discriminate) again after you´ve just been killed by the camper. So do the opposite, don´t run straight to him. Wait a moment and explore the other side of the map, try another approach if possible or just wait him out. Though waiting out a camper might not be the smartest thing to do, they seem to have all day and most of them will not move unless being forced. Explosives are a good way of flushing out a turd...I mean a camper, but it will probably also draw a lot of attention to you. If you have quick reflexes then feel free to try the camper by confronting him straight on, but you´ll most likely die because most of them are already aiming and only have to pull the trigger.
If you want to give a personal fuck you to a camper then you can sit in his camping spot and kill him (or her) every time he (or she) comes back to his (or her) favourite spot. A die hard camper will feel the need to kill you, to take back his place and sit there waiting for you and so on and on. If the camper is dedicated enough he (or she) will keep coming back, so be prepared for that when you try that. But remember, by taking the place of a camper you become the camper. If you can live with that then feel free to do what you want, but once again don´t expect people to congratulate you with your high kill streak. Camping doesn´t take skill, I´d say it takes patience and dedication but that´s about the only compliments I have for campers.
Good luck and may the most persistent bugger win!
